A/N:

This turned into angst at some point, just so you know.
Also implied thoughts of suicide? And mentions of possible death (& torture).

You made it onto the island of the hunters without trouble, to your surprise.

Sure, you didn't think that a fight or something would happen, but apparently you managed to get a perfect timing by pure chance – a lot of the guards weren't present, for some reason.

You found a pretty good hiding spot, too. It was a bit higher than the 'base ground' and probably didn't regularly have guards near it, but still low enough that you could reach it rather easily. And you had a good view of the middle of the island, where you assumed the main tent for Viggo was.
At least it was only one big tent, and didn't have a lot of ways to get to it.

You were surprised that you even found a place to hide in the first place though. You really did expect to have to constantly move around and avoid patrols and guards, but apparently they didn't have such high security, which would've definitely been possible, even with guards missing.

Maybe they just didn't expect anyone to be stupid enough to just stay at the base like that, which was understandable. You still weren't sure if this was a good decision after all, lots of other people probably wouldn't put themselves in such danger in the first place.

Maybe you were actually blinded by all your past missions. All your successes.
But you wouldn't just back out now, you didn't even fully start yet. You merely arrived on the island a few hours ago.

Speaking of arriving on the island, you saw some boats in the far distance, hunter-ships to be exact. The fact that you could see some of them without any kind of glass meant that they were huge.
'Must be the missing guards, I wonder where they're coming from...'

You could've taken out the telescope-thing Skuld had in their bag, but you highly doubted that you would see anything helpful on those ships. Probably just troops and maybe a few captured dragons, if you're lucky.
But none of these things were the reason why you were there.

Instead, you turned around to face your little, temporary 'home' – a small crack in a stonewall that led to a small cave inside, at least that was what it looked like. You already peeked inside, but now it was time to see if you can actually get into the possible cave.

So, you walked over and examined it, before you gently squeezed yourself against the two walls to fit into the crack. You had to be very careful because of your weapon that was attached to your hips – a special weapon Skuld crafted just for you.

It was basically a normal thin sword, but there was a special function for it that was hard to see; if you pressed a certain button on the handle, a second blade would jump out and it would turn into a double-ended-sword of sorts. Basically a handle with two identical blades on both sides.
And it was then also as tall as you.

Fighting with the fully extended weapon was difficult, but you mastered it over the years.
And right now you had to be very careful to not accidentally stab yourself with it. Which also meant you had to move even slower than you could've.
