Gumball had spent the last two and a half hours at his desk excruciatingly reading through the 4 or 5 books he had on the desk. He had finished two and was partway through the third.
This is sooooooo boooooooring.
He slammed his head on the desk in frustration.
Maybe he should just give up. I mean who was he kidding, it's not as if this was gonna work right?
He'd just forget everything on the day, panic and screw it all up, just like he always did.
No. He had to keep going. He had to do this to prove to not only his mother, not only the town of Elmore but to himself that he could do this. He couldn't give up, no matter how painfully boring it was.
He sighed, picked up the book and continued reading.
Half an hour later Anais entered the room reading a book.
"Hey!"
"Oh, hey sis!"
"What're you up to?"
"Studying for an exam on Friday."
"Oh, alright."
She began to climb up to her bed but stopped halfway and dropped the book she was reading, realizing what he had said.
"Wait...WHAT!?" She turned to look at him shocked.
"You heard me. I'm studying."
She slowly climbed back down and walked over placing her hands on her hips and raising her eyebrow.
"You, Gumball Watterson are actually studying for an exam? Like, genuinely studying. Not just pretending or skimming through the book quickly or something?"
"Yep, I'm really, genuinely studying."
She looked at him confused. "Who are you and what have you done with my brother?"
Gumball couldn't help but smile. "What, is it that big a deal that I'm actually taking a test seriously for once?"
"This is you we're talking about it."
"...good point." He sighed. Even his sister couldn't take him studying seriously...was it really that big a deal that he was? Was it really that shocking that he was trying to do well, to actually accomplish something?
"So...what's this exam for anyway?" Anais brought him out of his thoughts.
"It's a science exam. Oh, err, I hope you don't mind but I borrowed some of your textbooks to study from."
"That's alright, you're using them for a good reason."
"Thanks."
She thought for a moment before rubbing her arm. "Hey, uhhh, y'know...if you really are taking this exam seriously I could...maybe...help you study for it, i-i-if you want."
