Chapter 1

The forest that it surrounded itself with, hid the dark elongated tower. It was the day after my mother's death. It all happened too suddenly, or maybe I should've expected it; all happening within a few days.

To think he left to die with his lover, my mother. Even though I was still here.

One could assume he was in a state of depression, maybe he was also terrified as he was shaken. You would've thought he'd man up to take control, to comfort his daughter. The void, too great to fill. But how could a child understand what he was going through?

Her tears built up around her eyes, eventually bursting into streams of water. She reached out her hand to grasp his.

Even one who is cruel and callous can show his rare generosity, but it seemed like it had all been spent on a singular person. Hence, he killed himself, looking me in the eye; not once breaking that neutral face.

'He shook off my hand.'

Letting go, he fell. He just fell, waiting for death. The gravitational force leading him straight to the ground. His body dispersed into dust the moment he landed. Not once flinching while falling to his impending doom.

I was his flesh and blood, yet that didn't stop him from dying. I was left alone in this cruel world. Shaking hands that clasped that window sill, looking out to see nothing but dust.

A traumatizing moment, yet it didn't care since it left me with all this despair. It just left me numb inside.

Huddled near the window, Lilian appeared.

She was as kind as she was graceful, while I fell for her warm, charming smile. Lilian happened to take me in, she extended her hand to someone who felt like they were unwanted. Her generosity which I cling to desperately. She became my parental figure and someone I would want to protect desperately.

My deceased parents were powerful mages, yet they only taught me the basics on how to control it. Lilian had seen potential in me and offered to take me on as her apprentice, providing residence.

With no one to rely on, I clung to her tightly, making sure to care for only her. The dark tower; a black tall structure, taller than it is wide; where she took me to which was similar to that eventful day. The dark, eerie room that will now be my sleeping quarters.

Slumber.

She had mentioned it to me prior times before; not that I listened.

It was intriguing enough to pique my curiosity; skipping generations to see the advancements. It just seemed difficult to leave the past. Lily had told me that since I was old enough for such experimentations I could try this one.

The coffin she placed in front of me questioned my decision. Lily handed me some liquor she had conjured up, also having one in her hands. I drank the liquor, while stepping into the coffin.

Alcohol.

I shifted my view to Lily, with a questioning look. Her face was smiling, while I fell into the coffin fast asleep.

The next moment I awakened, my vision was hazy.
