AFTER THE GAME, CHANGMIN RUSHES DOWN THE BLEACHERS, but a hand wraps around his arm, stopping him. Turning around, he meets Hwanwoong's eyes. For a minute, he thinks he's imagining the boy as his high school desk mate is standing in front of him-the same guy declaring his transfer to Michigan University despite winning victory for his University.
Changmin doesn't think about it too much. A laugh escapes his mouth, "Why did you disappear after graduating from high school? I thought we were going to the same university, you know, we had the same dream and Juyeon! He won't stop talking about how talented you are."
"It's a long story," a smile slips across Hwanwoong's face. He gives him an affectionate embrace, pulling back to only laugh again as the cool breeze sweeps past them, a reminder that the temperature will drop soon.
"We should hang out sometime. Do you still have my number? I didn't change it."
"Definitely. The three of us. I didn't forget you, or him."
. . .
ENTERING THE CAMPUS BOOKSTORE, Changmin hears a grand applause across the table adjacent to the window in the corner. The applause better not have been for him, knowing himself, it would be catastrophic and result in him as the center of attention.
He's the soccer, and football team's manager-that's all he wishes to remain, and nothing more.
He's lying to himself, he knows.
But he can't forget the accident in his childhood. He can't seem to swim to shore, pushing past the memory of his mother sacrificing herself for his safety, watching her disappear as the waves pulled her away from him.
He decides to not wear the red hat tonight, hoping the two hours will pass by quickly, already feeling his heartbeat accelerate, pounding against his chest. Changmin will not accept or tolerate drama tonight. Just not tonight. He begins working on the coffee order for a student with smooth raven hair covering his forehead.
The raven offers him an amiable smile, one that's pretty and iridescent, reaching the silver of moonlight vibrant in his eyes. Changmin can't help but return the smile, and the dimple dancing on his cheek is now visible, handing Eunwoo the espresso.
"Are you still attending dance classes? We have our first performance coming up after finals."
"It's been difficult since classes started, and we haven't even reached finals week yet. It's my sister, actually, she's been working late nights, and she asked me to drop her off at work, and take her home. I don't know what it is . . . but I think someone is following her."
