xiii. a very rainy birthday!

the group didn't believe them at first.
"what?" nancy and dustin asked in unison.

nancy, lucas, dustin, robin, and max sat in the living room of the carmichael's house—they were bewildered and in shock.

"i...i didn't want to tell you guys at first because we've been so focused on max and i didn't want to take away from that and—" steve interrupted his girlfriend's rambling.
"and i told her that she should." he interjected.

"yes. steve. thank you. but i'm...it's not looking good, guys. i've had my first vision." wendy acknowledged, gazing towards max.

she swore that she could see max mayfield's blue eyes soften. if anyone understood what she was going through, it was max.

"well...what, i'm sorry, this is just, this adds a whole new layer to this," nancy wheeler couldn't believe that another member of their group was getting targeted by vecna. "do you have music that would be helpful for you?" nancy asked, her eyes were fixed on wendy.

"i did, but i lo—" another interruption.
"i do. i found your tape in my room, before we left last night." steve held out a walkman towards his girlfriend.

wendy's eyebrows furrowed as she looked down at his hands. sure enough, he held a walkman and headphones. a small smile creeped onto wendy's face as she accepted it before glancing back up towards steve.

"and what, exactly, is my tape?" she teased. she knew that steve knew her favorite song, hell he even knew her favorite band.
"well, considering that you ask me to play it every single time you come over to my house, i'm guessing its somebody to love by queen." steve smiled, he felt heat rush to his cheeks and he couldn't believe that he was getting nervous in front of wendy.

nancy wheeler watched the two, she smiled softly but felt a pang of something in her chest—jealousy? envy? she knew that steve and wendy were meant to be together, they simply fit together. she wondered if people thought the same when they looked at her and jonathan.

"i guess this means we're going from max watch to max and wendy watch. anyways, guys, we have to get going." nancy dismissed as she stood to her feet.

wendy carmichael remembered the day that she received queen's 'a day at the races' album—it was the day of her tenth birthday, it had been released seven months prior but that didn't matter to her.

"close your eyes." richard carmichael ordered.
"dad, you already have your hands covering my eyes." wendy carmichael sassed.
"fair enough." the father of two was defeated.

steve harrington stood, holding the vinyl out in front of him, he looked up towards richard carmichael, waiting for the greenlight.

richard carmichael nodded and counted off '1, 2, 3' before removing his hands from his daughter's eyes.

"happy birthday!" steve and richard exclaimed in unison.

"no way!" wendy gasped staring down at the vinyl in steve's hands. she grabbed it and looked towards steve harrington.
"you got this for me, harrington?" she smiled widely.
