xvii. friends again!

there were no guns in nancy wheeler's room.

wendy carmichael watched as nancy pointed out things in her room that didn't belong—they were things from, what nancy had stated, years ago.

"n-nancy...what does this mean?" wendy spoke up as she stood in between robin and eddie.

nancy stopped after she picked up a journal, stuck on one page.
"what is it?" eddie stepped forward.
"nancy? you're freaking me out." robin warned.
"freaking us out." wendy corrected.

there was a beat of brief silence before nancy spoke again.
"i think the reason that my guns aren't here is because they don't exist yet." nancy tried to explain as she started down at the date in her journal.

"what?" wendy questioned at the same time that eddie spoke. "they don't...exist?" eddie inquired.

"this diary should be full of entries. it's not. the last entry is november 6, 1983. the day will went missing, the day the gate opened. we're in the past." nancy explained.

wendy carmichael tried to remember what she was doing on the day that will byers went missing—it was hard for her to recall a specific day that was nearly three years ago, but she remembered. she had spent that morning trying to convince steve to join her for the carmichael family game night, but he had refused. he said that he had plans with tommy, but she later found out that he had lied and actually hung out with nancy wheeler. to say that they argued was an understatement.

"dustin! dustin!" the yells of steve harrington caught the group's attention.

rushing down the stairs, the pack of four followed the sound of steve's voice—he stood in the middle of the wheeler's living room, yelling at the ceiling.
"maybe he really does have rabies..." robin muttered out.

"steve, what are you doing?" nancy called out.

steve turned towards the four, shining his flashlight towards them.
"he's here. henderson. that little shit, he's here. he's like...he's in the walls or something. just listen. dustin. dustin! dustin!" steve went back to screaming.

wendy carmichael's brows stitched together in concern as she watched her boyfriend yell out for dustin henderson. then, she heard it.

a gasp fell from wendy's lips as she heard a muffled version of dustin henderson's voice speaking. nancy wheeler followed suit, yelling out for dustin. then wendy, then eddie, finally robin.

"all right, either this kid can't hear us or he's being a total douchebag." steve said, wendy stood next to his side.
"will found a way." nancy stated.

steve and wendy looked towards nancy.
"what?" steve questioned.

"will. he found a way to speak to joyce through the lights." nancy walked off, attempting to turn on a lamp.

wendy watched as steve pointed out the glowing light fixture, he and nancy walked towards it. nancy wheeler stuck her hand out, touching the glowing particles near the lamp shade.
"holy shit." wendy gasped out, walking towards nancy and steve.

"whoa." eddie munson added, standing behind wendy with robin next to him.

wendy felt herself tense up from the closeness of eddie munson—his chest nearly touched her back, but she relaxed. it was okay for them to be friends again. out of pure curiosity, wendy stuck her hand out as well and the rest of the group followed. wendy slowly dragged her fingers through the particles, they grazed along her hand gently and softly.
