Chapter 9 - Time Starts Now

Bonnie POV 2/7 4:50pm-6:00pm

We reach Steven’s Quarry after about 30 minutes and I park behind a line of trees.

      “So what are we doing here exactly?” Elena hops out of the car and dashes over to my side, leaning on the open window.

      “Stefan texted this place to me. Klaus is coming here to ‘save’ Caroline and we can’t have him leave. You can just stay in the car.” She looks at me and raises her eyebrow, obviously not approving of my idea.

      “You’re kidding, right? I’m coming.” She turns to walk away but, as much as I hate to do this to her, I immobilize her. She falls to her knees, grasping her head in pain.

      “Ahh! Bonnie, what are you doing? You’re hurting me!” She looks at me, begging me to stop, but I can’t trust her.

      “You have to stay here, Elena.” I release her and she gets back into the car, slamming the door shut in protest.

I walk over to the location Stefan texted me. There are so many rock caverns over here, how the hell am I supposed to know which one Caroline is in?!

      “Care? Care? Where are you?” I yell in a whispered tone, hoping she’ll hear me and tell me where she’s at. After a few minutes of hearing nothing, I huff in frustration and turn to go back to the car. As soon as I spin around, Caroline is in front of me with a finger to her lips, urging me to remain silent. She grabs my waist and runs back to a dark cavern.

      “Okay, go back there and hide. Don’t. Breath.” She takes off her daylight ring and puts it in her pocket while she walks to the edge of the darkness, just out of sunlight’s reach.

      “Caroline, love, what happened?” I hear Klaus as he runs over to Caroline with Stefan, but he stops in his tracks. “What’s going on here, Stefan?” I hear Stefan mumble something as Klaus yells over, “I can hear your heartbeat, sweetheart.” Shit. I know he is talking about me, I inch out and he immediately dashes over and throws me against a rock wall – this is not going well. Stefan attacks Klaus, but he predicts it, and throws him against me. I feel the blood trickle out of my head and apparently so does Stefan.

      “Ste-Stefan, don’t. Control it.” My voice comes out soft and terrified as his eyes fade into dark. Caroline pleads with Klaus to stop, but he tells her to stay out of it as he nears us.

      “Why do you constantly cross me? You will NOT win. And this was one too many times, and this time it’s your life that you’ll pay with.” His eyes fade to black and turn gold, canine’s extending as he walks closer. Suddenly, his body falls to the ground in a heap with a broken neck. Elena stands behind him with a smug look on her face.

      “I got tired of the car, Bonnie.” She sprints over and helps me up as Stefan stands up and brushes himself off. He constantly tries to apologize to me for reacting to the blood, but I assure him it’s alright. Elena feeds me some of her blood to make sure I don’t have a concussion, and I reluctantly accept it.

      “Okay, I’ll meet you in the car. I have to trap him here.” I call on my inner strength and the power of Qetsiyah’s talisman to bind Klaus in the cavern. He is an original, so snapping his neck won’t keep him down long. I draw on the power of the full moon to keep him there and run back to the car where Elena fidgets in the passenger seat. “I bought us a couple of days. 3 or 4 max.”  Elena nods and I drive off towards the lakehouse with Caroline and Stefan close behind.
