Josiah was outside by the shops, glancing over at what the civilians were selling. A poor guy was selling fruits for about ten dollars each. A little expensive, but understandable. However as he glanced around at all of the shops...it was all of them. After his father took the throne it seemed all these hopeless people were suffering through poverty. What had this kingdom become?

Disgusted with his father, he began to hand out some money to these people. Though he did feel a bit awkward about it, not wanting to offend anyone by just handing it out like they couldn't sell their fruit for a ridiculously high amount.

He didn't take their fruits, deciding that they needed it more than he did. One old lady grabbed both of his hands, her wrinkled lips forming into a smile. "Thank you, young prince. I will forever be in debt." Her smile warmed his broken heart and for once he smiled back. He patted her hand before she released, turning his back to her and leaving. It had been nice to give for a change instead of taking things he didn't even need. It was definitely a nice feeling to be less cold to people. However, those feelings wouldn't last.

With a straight face, he exited the gate, deciding he needed time to think again.

It wasn't everyday he had to pick a wife, forced into marraige by someone who didn't even interest him in the slightest. Then after that he was forced to have a kid, a heir to the throne.

It never really repulsed him perse, but he had never really felt sexual desires towards anyone, even to that guard he had a crush on when he was little. Actually, he's never really felt anything sexual before. More...romantic feelings. He had believed for so long that something was wrong with him until, of course, his inprisoned friend explained it to him. He believed Reyna had called it Asexual. Perhaps that's what he was, it would definitely explain a lot.

Though, Josiah knew it was just another thing his father was going to control. He never really had control over himself anymore, actually he didn't believe he ever had control over his life. Everything had always been what his father had wanted, never what he wanted.

Would things have been different if his father's family never died in that palace several years ago? He understood his father had gotten messed up in that war, but would things have been different if there wasn't one? Hell, he might have actually got to meet his mother.

He walked around the woodlands, straying far away from that wall. He didn't want to go back there just to be caught speaking to that witch again. He had seemed playful, but maybe playful was too dangerous. Josiah understood he wasn't exactly the definition of fun, but that Atticus guy seemed to not be fun, but more or so annoying.

He found himself walking down a dirt trail, thinking back to the words Reyna had spoke to him about his fate. What if he had no fate? Or perhaps his only fate was to give into his father's ways and act like a true prince?

True prince.

What even was that anymore?

He stopped walking when he found himself getting close to the wall. He turned around, uncertain how he actually ventured there. He had tried so hard to steer away from it, yet here he was. He turned back around to hear voices coming from the other side. Being nosy, he decided to listen.

" What if we get caught, Atticus? "

" Would you keep your voice down? It might be our only chance. "

Josiah's interest peaked, trying to listen to more to see what the two were planning. It was definitely the same Atticus from this morning, but who did he have with him? A sibling perhaps? Throwing the unnecessary thought out of his head he came to a conclusion.

They were going to cross over the wall.

And he was going to be waiting for them.

A/n: since this chapter is short with just over 680 words I decided to post it early. Got to dig a little in Josiah's mind a bit. However, chapter 4 really starts to show everyone's personalities a bit better (in my opinion). So enjoy !
