Mera had just finished teaching her children their numbers when Emine came in, looking somewhat anxious, so the sultan sent the children with Fulane hatun and focused on her other friend."What is it Emine? Did you hear something worrying?"
"The concubine, Hurrem, has yet to leave his majesty's chambers." the maid informed solemnly.
"No, it's impossible, I saw Suleiman this morning when he bid me and the kids good morning and went to his divan, he even told me to come to him tonight." countered the sultan in confusion, her mind racing in possibilities and dark thoughts.
"The concubine is probably thinking about entertaining him tonight, she can't it's the holy Thursday night, and not even Mahidevran can steal it from you." Protested Emie angrily.
Mera then smiled tersely and addressed her maid."The Sultan asked for me this morning, so I will get ready for him, unless an agha comes to tell me otherwise, we will continue planning the day as we said before." The maid nodded briefly and hurried back to the harem to spy once she was dismissed by her mistress.
Turned out, Mera was right not to worry, the sultan had sent Pargali Ibrahim who in turn went to tell Sumbul Agha to send Hurrem back to the harem and to get the sultan ready for the night.
From what she had heard from Sumbul, Alexandra did not enjoy being told what to do, and Mera hoped that would cause enough problems for the Valide to intervene and create more problems for Suleiman, so that he can dislike the three of them and for Mera to remain the one and only faithful obedient consort of his, even though she was very clearly the opposite.
She doubted the Rithunian concubine would continue to like or disrespect her in the future, but she paid her no mind and spared her no thoughts, at least for the blissful night with the sultan, Mera was a clever woman, she knew when to act and how to do so, and she had plenty of tricks up her sleeves that she would likely try on the newest doll that Suleiman seemed to enjoy.
Mera had spent the night entertaining him in a way she knew no other concubine would be able to, she had told him of the daily gossip happening around the harem, and the whispers she could hear, he was always interested in those, he had no actual master of whispers and he knew that such job would be very useful to his personal and imperial affairs, as it proved to be many times in the Mannisa's palace.
Mera was an outgoing person by nature, and while she was forced to stay inside palace walls, much to her chagrin, as she had attempted with Suleiman to let her visit the local synagogue to pray plenty of times, as the palaces only have a church and a mosque, to no avail. She had used her position to her advantage, she was always welcoming merchants inside, and her aghas used to go to town to buy the palace's necessities, she just knew how to use that to her profit.
Suleiman as usual found himself besotted with her smile, voice, beauty and grace, he then started talking about his day and state matters, the ottomans were likely going to go on an extensive campaign against Hungary, and Mera wholeheartedly wished for him to do so, she hated the man and his royal family, they were horrible to the south Balkans.
