You have lived in Billings, Montana your whole life. It was the only place you've ever known. You were living your best life. You loved the weather there, you were popular in school, your whole family was there, everything was absolutely perfect. As you were doing your homework one day, your mom walked in your room.
"Hey, y/n, I have to tell you something." You look back at her.
"Okay, what is it?" You said. She took a deep breath and looked you in the eyes, which made you a bit intimidated.
"I have been planning this for a while and I've been dreading to tell you because you aren't going to like it, but I think it's time I tell you. We are moving to Hawkins Indiana." You felt some sort of a rush of heat go down your whole body. Hawkins Indiana? You've never even heard of that place. Why there?
"What? Why? Mom, I can't leave all my friends here in Billings! And I wouldn't know anyone there!" You felt your voice start to quiver.
"I understand how you feel, but you know we won't be able to last long here with the job I have right now. I got offered a great job in Hawkins that pays really well. Sweetie, it's the only option we've got. I'm sorry." She stood there for a while, you looked at her in denial. She let out a sad smile, then slowly walked out of your room. You looked around. You've lived in this house your whole life. You have so many memories here. You looked at the chipped paint on the wall. You remember when you had a sleepover with your best friend and she accidentally pushed the night stand into the wall when you were listening to music and dancing. You both couldn't stop laughing. You looked up at the ceiling and saw the dent from when you kept hitting your head on the ceiling when you had a bunk bed with your younger sister, Brittany. There were so many memories, you weren't ready to leave. You couldn't.One month later, the house is already full of boxes. It's moving day. Your mom is packing the moving truck. You take one last look around. You walk upstairs to your empty room. Brittany comes and stands next to you.
"You okay, Y/n?" You didn't answer her. You just kept looking around at the dents in the wall and stains on the carpet. You finally answer her.
"18 years of my life. All packed up in one day." You said as you felt the tears forming in your eyes. Brittany pointed at the ground.
"That purple stain. Isn't that from when we were painting our nails when we were little?" Brittany chuckled.
"Oh yea, I remember we tried to clean it up with soap and water but it only made it worse. Mom and Dad got so mad at us." You smiled at the ground. Brittany tossed her head back and gently laughed.
"Gosh, I miss Dad. This house is the last piece of him we have." Brittany said as she was sniffing. You turned to look at her.
"What do you mean? We still have pictures."
"I know, but this house has the memories. Dad was in this house. Mom was happy in this house. The new house in Hawkins doesn't have all those memories. The first memories we will make in that house will probably be helping mom when she's wasted out of her mind and passed out on the couch." Brittany said looking at you. You could see the tears forming in her eyes which wasn't normal, because she never cries. You hugged her tightly, and you could feel her head bury in your shoulder. Your sweet moment was interrupted when your mom walked in the room.
"Okay girls. It's time to go. All the stuff is in the truck. Let's go." She said. You walked out the front door. You took one last look back, and soaked in all the memories, then shut the door. You all get in the truck. You pass a sign a little later that says, "Leaving Montana. Come back again soon." You take a deep breath and lay your head on your seatbelt, trying to fall asleep. Not because you were tired, but you just wanted to escape for a little bit. After a long two days, you finally arrive to Hawkins. You pull into a long driveway, with a small red brick house.
"Well, we're finally here, girls. Welcome home." Your mom said as she gets out of the truck. You jump out and land on the driveway of gravel. This wasn't your ideal house, but it will have to do. I mean, it's the middle of your senior year, you won't have to live here for too long. You walk down the long driveway, and you open the door. It smells like wood and there is dust everywhere.
"Home sweet home!" Your mom said as her voice echoed through the empty house. You went upstairs to see if there were any rooms that you could use as your bedroom. There were two small rooms. You let your little sister pick a room, because you didn't really care which one you got. They were both the exact same. Your sister picked and you went to your room.
"Yea." You scoffed to yourself. "Home sweet home."
