It had been almost a month since Spencer had been kidnapped. He'd stayed in the hospital for three days and as far as Teddy knew has been going to therapy ever since then, Teddy didn't like to think about that day and he assumed Spencer didn't either.
Everyone on the team ignored what happened to Spencer, the Tobias case just never happened. Which included Spencer declaring that he was gay indirectly to the whole team, honestly Teddy wasn't sure if anyone even remembered. It was inconsequential compared to having to witness him being choked to death on his own hair and then resurrected by his murderer. Teddy wasn't even sure if they saw him kiss Spencer's forehead, he wasn't sure if Spencer himself remembered he was in such dissociated state.
Teddy hoped Spencer didn't remember, he felt awful about it. Spencer hadn't even expressed to Teddy that he was attracted to him much less consented to Teddy kissing him. Teddy honestly couldn't explain himself. He was so overwhelmed by emotions and just the joy of seeing him again he didn't know what to do. Hell Teddy didn't even know if Spencer heard his confession all he knew Teddy had been talking to an empty room.
Teddy avoided Spencer as much as he could which was rather difficult when they worked on a team together. He wasn't sure if the rest of the team noticed this but he knew Hotch did when he called Teddy into his office closing the blinds when he walked in.
"Look, I don't know Spencer has been going through a lot right now. But I thought you would know better than anyone that now is a really difficult time for him, he needs support from the people around him. You can't pull away now Greenfield."
"It's more- it's complicated," Teddy sighed running his hands up and down his face.
"Well uncomplicated it because he's... he's going through a lot right now. He's the smartest we got on the team and it would be detrimental to lose him."
"Lose him, how? Leaving the team? Taking a break? Suicide?" Teddy asked more nervously now, had he been indirectly fucking up Spencer's mental health? He didn't mean to, he didn't want to hurt Spencer he was trying his best to do the opposite.
"I honestly don't know Greenfield. I'm worried about him and you've been a great influence on him, he's been happier, more confident. I didn't forget Greenfield, he declared being homosexual to a serial killer who was going to kill him if he didn't 'repent' that takes guts. He needs you, Greenfield, you can't shut him out now."
Teddy nodded his head. He felt horribly guilty but Hotch was right, he was being a dick and had to change immediately, he couldn't lose Spencer. He just couldn't. He still felt bad about kissing his forehead but that was unimportant compared to this bad of a drop in Spencer's mental health and the fact that Spencer could drop out of the force was terrifying. Spencer loved his job he was helping people and putting serial killers behind bars.
Teddy walked out of Hotch's office and continued his work day trying to find an excuse to talk to Spencer, his anxiety getting the best of him every time he tried talking to him. Spencer never actually called Teddy so he didn't have his number and after Spencer left work early for some reason he decided he would just ask Emily for his number.
After Teddy clocked out he went to the supermarket grabbing some groceries he'd been running low on mostly dairy products.
Teddy drove home afterwards trying to think of the best way to ask Emily for Spencer's phone number. It honestly wasn't that big of a deal and he knew he would get around it eventually but he couldn't help overthinking, what if she doesn't have it? What if she also didn't forget about Spencer being gay and wanted to talk about it?
