Peter Kelly was lucky enough to spend his Christmas Eve with his brother Gavin, Gavin's wife, Delilah and their son Jack. He was lucky to be able to have the opportunity to spend time with them, he never got the chance to properly meet his nephew and was happy he got to during the holidays.
Peter was looking forward to telling his nephew all of these stories about him and Gavin's journey, to them playing with toy planes as a kid, wondering if little Jack Kelly would fall into the same footsteps. But seeing how it all happened for Gavin, and what their father was like, Jack was lucky that his father didn't turn out the way their father did, he has some episodes from time to time but always remained silent about it. They often spent time talking about the war because it felt like the war had been going on forever.
"Do you ever miss it?" Peter asked Gavin in regards to flying,
"Sometimes, I think about it from time to time."
"Do you regret leaving?" Peter asked,
Gavin looked at his family and then looked at Peter and the word, "No."
"I have everything I need right here." Gavin added, "My days in the military are behind me and here is where I have a new chapter in my life."
Peter looked and watched as his brother was finally starting to find his inner peace, and make sure that his son had a healthy childhood. Peter wanted to be a part of his nephew's life and watch him grow the way he was. It was everything that Gavin needed with all that he had went through.
"So, what have you been up to since you're no longer in the Military?" Peter asked realizing that he needed to catch up with his brother.
"I actually got a job for the Montana Standard," Gavin answered, "The newspaper..."
"Gavin that's incredible..." Peter started to say and then making a snarky comment because he couldn't help himself, "But with your grammar how did they hire you?"
Gavin jokingly hit Peter and the two of them jokingly started fighting, Delilah called for them to stop like two little boys fighting at the playground.
"Jackass..." Gavin joked.
"I know you are but what am I?" Peter responded back.
"Boys..." Delilah said intervening, "You are not children... stop acting like it."
Peter and Gavin looked at Delilah and then looked at each other and started laughing, and stopped their heavily bickering, and they just smirked at her. Gavin then took Jack and put him in his arms and started flying him like an airplane. Peter smiled as he watched Gavin play with his son. Delilah tapped on Peter's shoulder, and then she smiled at him as he turned around to talk to her.
"He's becoming a better person." Peter said, "He's always been a good person, but he's a great dad as well..."
Peter started to realize what he was saying didn't really sound right. He apologized to Delilah and she let him that it was okay and she could understand a bit. Given how much he went through, and how she felt as if she put him through too much. But Peter never really blamed Delilah, he just knew how much she loved Gavin. So he couldn't have ever stayed mad at her.
As Gavin left with Jack to bring him to bed, there was an awkward tensity between him and Delilah, not knowing what to say or do, and thinking about everything that had occurred. And how he was willing to let Delilah go to be happy with Gavin. Peter just wanted Delilah to know how he truly felt about her.
"You know I did love you..." He said, "Like a lot."
"I know..." Delilah responded,
"And all of that is in the past now, and I am accepting that I will be happy one day..."
