(L's POV)
REN, Log 3,

Is it really that simple? I don't understand it. Why would three people, children at that, be obligated to "deliver" this package? No, it's more of a warning if anything. A 'let me join, or I'll continue to pester you' kind of deal. And sure, I've done my fair share of questionable actions, but this is the Kira investigation, not some daycare!
I had assigned Watari to get some insight through security tapes, but that was nearly a dead end too. The only thing we got was heights and hair colors. Whoever instructed them had to know the layout of the building beforehand, or at least had some kind of sharp eye to avoid the cameras.
There's also the low, but slowly increasing, chance that the children themselves are behind Ren, further reason to keep them as far away as possible.
The first thing I had tried was a series of mixed codes scrambled throughout my message. To my surprise, he exceeded the speed of which I estimated him to solve it by 12 minutes and 31 seconds.
Something isn't right, I must continue investigating.

REN, Log 5,

Things are getting dangerous. Upon further speculation and continuous research, these 'kids' are nowhere to be found. Well, kind of. Most recently they have been residing in a public library, I am unaware of their sleeping arrangements. I've yet to gain a sample, but I had set up a face recognition program. It's as if they've never existed.
How troublesome. I think I may be having fun...
I need more cake.

REN, Log 8,

The task force hasn't been as efficient with the current shifts, getting Ren on my side is becoming a potential recourse that I can't afford to lose. But what can he really bring to the table that I don't have already?
Despite Ren's warning, I had Watari set up surveillance in the Yagami home. It's scary how accurate this tipper is. Despite Light leaving the house on the regular, rather than the studious boy his father said he was, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
It's almost as if he's too perfect. No, there is no almost about it. Something fishy is going on, and I don't know what. It's irritating. I will not lose.

REN, Log 10,

Shinigami? Was that not a joke? And then there's that message sent from Kira. 'L, did you know, shinigami love apples?' I'm not sure I can trust Ren with the opportunity to see my face. It would make perfect sense if he was Kira pretending to be an ally to get on the inside. And yet, it makes no sense at all.
I must be really tired if I'm contradicting myself.
Watari, please replay the tapes.

(3rd Person)
After many, many pleading conversations, Sayu's been laying low. And thank the heavens for that, she no longer looked like a twitchy raccoon. Unfortunately, she still insisted on 'doing her part', despite the fact that it wasn't her responsibility in the slightest. However, it was quite endearing to see that determined fire in her eyes. She seems more like a future justice fighter than Light, who had supposedly dedicated his life to said ideals.
Something though, was itching in the back of Emma's mind.
What classified a name and a face?
First, there could be the idea of a full name, first middle last, that was given from birth. But some of the criminals had married, effectively changing their last name, but they still died. Does this mean that it's whatever name you currently are referred to legally? Or did Kira go through the trouble of finding their maiden names? Did it even have to be legal? Or just the general way that most people know them? And possibly worst of all, did the numbers on their necks define them as who they are in these cases?
Sure the extra protection would be nice and all, but the thought of being bound to such ideals made her queasy.
"Hey, earth to space brain, you gonna wake up in there? Or will we have to do all this work by ourselves?" Ray playfully bonked her head with his new fantasy book, he hadn't put it down for hours despite the fact that he was also helping ray track the coordinates of the number one detective.
"I swear this has got to be impossible. The man has firewalls for his backup firewalls. The stupid jerk is making this so much harder than it needs to be." In one of his moods, Norman's mask of 'the responsible level headed one' seemed to chip away just a bit more.
"Well he is the best for a reason, who knows how many people want to kill the guy." Ray counters with a shrug, the two having a silent staring contest. Well, before Emma broke it up of course.
"Boys, please. Why don't we just use the message thingy and talk to him directly? Or, semi-directly I guess. I'd doubt he'd ever show himself in public. That'd be a pretty stupid thing to do. Just imagine, worlds greatest detective voluntarily showing his face to a potential murderer. No matter how secure your name is, you'd have to have quite the confidence in yourself to pull something like that off." Spouting straight of facts, Emma rationally provides her insight on the current problem.
"Okay? Anyway, how would we even set up a meet-"
"Done."
"Ray we talked about this! You're not allowed to use the computer by yourself, not after what happened last time!" Normal was appalled by the behavior, especially when they were nearly kicked out from one of Ray's pranks. One that kept all the phone lines busy, redirecting them to the library for the next 12 hours.
"Oh cry me a river, drama queen. We have a lot of work to do, and only a week to do it."
This was an understatement, as the trio would soon have to discuss things. After all, they have no records, alibis, or witnesses to keep them out of trouble.
