Papers shuffled around again and again, the sound almost harmonizing with the soft clacking of keys. It seemed like another completely normal day for the taskforce, or, whatever could be considered normal with Kira around.
However, today the tension was higher than usual. Aizawa had come in and handed L a large yellow envelope, saying it was urgent. All they knew was that an important detective had reached out to L.
It had been half an hour since then and L had still said nothing about it, double checking through it's contacts and inspecting a usb drive.
"...So? What are we going to do?" Aizawa was growing impatient and for the first time was incredibly grateful Matsuda had said something, he was just glad it wasn't something stupid.
"The only thing we can. Watari, please run this drive on that computer over there."
"What?!" They couldn't believe what L said. One of the most cautious people here just plugged in a drive that very well could have a virus stored.
"Calm down, all of you. I have already disconnected the computer from the main servers, if anything happens then the perpetrator won't get anything out of it. Really it'd just be a waste of both their time and ours." It made sense, but the others couldn't help but feel uneasy with the situation. It's hard not to when there's someone who can kill with a name and a face then all of a sudden a mysterious package shows up.
A small ping notified everyone that the files had successfully loaded onto the computer. A blank page opened immediately showing a blinking cursor sitting there, unmoving. The taskforce held their breath, waiting for something to happen, but nothing did.
"Looks like it was just a prank after all..." Matsuda sighed, their only potential lead dying out so fast was a real downer on his day. It was safe to say the others felt the same way.
"Hmm, no, I don't think it is. The basic coding layout is far too complicated for this to be some kind of hoax." L countered, running through a few of his own theories in his mind.
And so they adults went back to what they were doing, deciding to go back to the 'mysterious hard drive's' contents later.

(3rd Person)
Despite the large jacket, Ray could feel the goosebumps creeping onto his arms as the day got colder. They were nearing winter and yet, no progress was made for finding their family. And sure, why not look for them now? Go all out with a world wide broadcast?
The thing is that with Kira around? No where was safe. And so the trio have made it their top priority to stop Kira once and for all so their family can finally live in a safe world.
But that doesn't mean they gave up completely. There's always someone constantly checking the news in case a sibling popped up as a missing or abandoned child. They've hacked into cameras in large public places, hoping that maybe, just maybe, they could see their little brothers and sisters.
However the longer they looked the more they fell into despair. Nothing, not one little trail to go off of. It seems like the younger children were being just as careful as them, or they're... well... gone.
This possibility felt like it was becoming more and more likely as weeks went by, not only to Emma, but the others as well.
However, a little chime coming from the computer had given them some hope. It seems their message for help went through.
"Norman, Norman! What does it say!" Emma called out as she rushed to the computer, Ray picking up some of the things Emma had knocked over in her pursuit.
"I... don't know? It's in some kind of code." Almost immediately Norman began to type away, fingers blowing across the keys.
"Ahhh, whaaaaaaaaat? L, why do you have to be so cryptic." Pouting, Emma dragged her feet all the way across the room, dramatically falling back into her seat.
"Well, since this is probably gonna take a while, I'd like to talk about the most recent dea-"
"Done." Ray was going to bring up Kira's most confusing kill before Norman so rudely interrupted. "Oh, uh, sorry Ray, you were saying?" With a quick glare he started again.
"As I was saying, I want to talk about Kira's most recent kill, Naomi Misora. No criminal record, not a single blemish, not even shoplifting! The only thing she "did" was hold a job with the FBI, but she quit once she got engaged. This means she wasn't killed because of her job, so what did she do to get in his way?" Ray prodded the others to speak up, slightly hinting at the answer.
Emma's hand shot up, waving in the air as she whispers over and over, "I know, I know! Pick me!" nearly tipping her chair over as she leaned on the edge.
"Alright then, Emma, let's hear it." Through the deadpan face anyone could tell there was a hint of amusement.
"She knew too much, therefore, off with her head!" Emma slid her finger across her neck theatrically, pretending to be dead by slumping in her chair a moment later.
"Ding ding we got a winner." Ray sat himself next to Norman, powering up another computer and pulling up a picture of Naomi. "Now if we could just figure out what she knew, then we'll be one step closer to bringing Kira down." Norman's eyes went wide in the photo, his hands began to shake and the air became thick.
"No, that's- I could have, this can't be-" Dread pooled in his stomach and the moment they bumped into each other kept replaying in his mind.
He could have done something, something more, anything to save her. Naomi, the woman with the dull eyes is dead, and he could've saved her if only he did more.
Emma and Ray began to panic as well. Seeing their friend this worked up hasn't happened since, well, before their escape. Both rushed to his side, Ray trying to get his attention and Emma getting misty-eyed as she held onto Norman with one of her warmest hugs.
But it doesn't change the truth. Naomi is dead.

Sooooooooooo, I could have done L's response in here but I felt like this was a good place to stop the chapter. It is 1038 words not including this so there is that. Sorry it took so long to get the chapter out, next one should maaaaybe be between september 10- october 10. I haven't done any plot building past this point sooo. Also if I have made any spelling mistakes or if their are confusing points in the chapter/ plot holes, please please tell me so I can fix it and/or explain.
