Red and black poker chips spilling, red and purple lights illuminating, and the soft erratic jazz music was enough to keep Alex's heart pumping with adrenaline. It had been months since the final war on Dream and Alex had begun to build up a country on his own.

He had made new friendships and rekindled old ones. His old friends who were also building a nation had even helped him gather "mushrooms" for... "food" purposes. His empire was coming together as well as nation relations, and so would his plan.

Ever since he had left Schlatt's side as Vice president, he had missed being in command, or somewhat in command as per Schlatt's reign. However, he was looking for more of a 50/50 partnership, not the 90/10 partnership he had with the goat man.

He had remembered the few words he had exchanged with Wilbur before the election, he thinks about it almost daily.

It hadn't felt too long ago, it was like Alex had just met Schlatt. He was charming, handsome, and nothing like how he actually is. Later asking him to be his Vice President in secrecy, his fiance. Before he had known it, he was preparing everything for the 2020 elections. Gathering paperwork, writing speeches, making flyers and billboards. Anything to make sure he and Schlatt would both gather many of votes for both of their parties.

The day before elections swept in faster than he could think, and there he was, speaking with his opponent while gazing out over all of L'manburg. It was a pretty sight, he wishes he could say the same about the words they exchanged.

"Thank you for just coming out here to meet me and just, you know, talk. Listen I understand things are not easy right now." Alex turned to look at Wilbur before continuing. " You know with the debates we have are awful. Things are tense to say at least, with you know, elections coming up and everyone being on the edge of their seats. However I just wanted to have a little get together and talk to you!" Alex smiled while looking farther into Wilbur's expression.

He tried scanning his opponents face, looking for any trace of emotion, he wasn't looking for an argument, he wished to have good relations with everyone in the country. With that, he couldn't tell what was going through Wilbur's mind, as he then continued. " I wanna pick your brain for a bit."

"Pick my brain..?" Wilbur enquired.

"Yeah! I don't know, just...just to get to know you better." Alex explained to the taller brunette. "Alright, sure" Wilbur responded in an amused tone. Alex soon turned to look back over the cliff, watching the little canaries that would fly over them.

"What has made you do everything you've done up to this point?" "I'm guessing...just protection for my people, you know I just want to see them thrive!" Wilbur answered the winged boy while stepping next to him. "...Protection...for your people?" Alex repeated giving a quizzical look.

Wilbur nodded his head as they both looked off at the walls that surrounded the land. The wind blew gently, carrying small specks of dandelion fuzz the newly fallen leaves. "Can I, talk to you like off the books, and talk to you as a person? Forget the elections, forget the politics, forget we are politicians right now. I want to talk to you up close. I want to talk to you, as a person." Alex announced in a serious yet casual manner.

Wilbur shifted his glance back to the shorter man. "I mean, I appreciate it, but no." Wilbur said shooting down his request. "C'monnnn, it's just you and me, you can drop the politics, I just, genuinely wanted to get to know you better you know? I think it's fair. It's a fair request." Wilbur only sighed after Alex's rambling before giving in.

"I'll try."

"Listen, I get it I get what your trying to do, I get that your trying to protect your people I get that, and your trying to save your nation here but...you see Wilbur...here's the thing. I don't hate you." Wilbur raised a brow at this, before nodding him to carry on. "I don't want to evict you, I don't want to overthrow you, none of this is about fighting to me. I think that there's just a big difference between you and me, and I think that I like to see the good side of people." Wilbur snorted upon hearing this, "Like ScHLaTt." Wilbur said giggling.

Alex rolled his eyes, "Yeah like Schlatt, but I like to think that, there's a side of everyone that is willing to work for wanting to see a better future for everyone and I think that is where you and I are very different. See when I got here, when I got to these lands, and I wanted to join L'manburg. I was told I couldn't." He said sharply while looking over to see Wilbur's expression. Which was still, a somber look that seemed to cast over the land below.

Huffing, he kept talking. "I was told to walk away, because I wasn't allowed to join L'manburg. And to me, that was a lack of belonging, and if I have to become president and tear down some walls for no one to feel unwelcome again, then so be it. I do believe that everyone has a good side to them, and I do believe that everyone has something to contribute to the nation." Finishing what he had wanted to say, he once again looked for Wilbur's expression only to be met with those cold brown eyes staring into him.

"Your aspirations of optimism are not going to be subject to my nation, I completely disagree with everything you've said." Wilbur said quietly, that it had felt like the wind had whispered it. Alex couldn't even believe what he was hearing as they stood face to face.

"I mean, agree to disagree, but I, I'm not-" Wilbur soon cut him off before he could ramble again. "You say everyone has a good side Quackity, now you're right, you're right, everyone has a good side. But that good side will surely only be used to help themselves. If you really want to help people, then you need power Quackity. You can make your movement, you can make your resistance, you can go out, and you can come back." Wilbur began to tirade, while circling around the shadows the trees casted.

"They'll cheer for you in the streets! But you will change nothing. If you have a revolution, everyone will hate you. You will sacrifice everything, and you will lose everything you will ever have. But you'll come back and everything will be changed. And Quackity, if you want to change, you will need power. That's what you want really, isn't it? Look at me." Wilbur said sternly.

Alex scoffed, "I mean" "And power isn't gained from diplomacy and bureaucracy and giant court houses suspended in the sky! Blah blah BLAH! It's gained from swords, Quackity, it's gained from blades, it's gained from steel, iron. Even if, everyone has this good side that your talking about." Wilbur maintained eye contact as he continued to step closer to Alex, towering over him.

"And anyone that wants to prove it has to show their dark side first. You're going to have to kill. You're going to have to torture. You're going to have to maim. When I look at you, as a fellow outsider, you're not ready for that..." Wilbur then stopped his words, as if there were a filter that had stopped whatever that was going to come out.

"I'm leaving." He finally said after a silent minute or two.

This left Alex stunned, absolutely perplexed. What had just happened...
