I woke up once again to El standing over me but in a ghost costume. She must've saw someone dressed as ghost in one of her shows.
"What the hell did we talk about, El?" I asked while I sat up.
"Oh... yea, sorry." She apologized but I couldn't tell if she meant it because she had a sheet over her head.
"Why are you wearing that?" I asked yawning.
"I go trick or treat." She explained as I got out of bed.
"Did my dad say that's okay?" I asked excitedly I wanted her to come really bad.
"Not yet, I will ask." She informed me.
"Okay wait for me until you ask. I can convince him." I told her smiling.
"Ok."
"I need to get dressed so can you wait in your room?" I asked as I went to my dresser to pick out my clothes.
"Yea." She said while she left.I waited for her to shut the door until I took off my top.
I changed into a pair of patch up high waisted jeans, and a dark blue shirt.
I went to El's room.
"Hey let's go." I said peaking my head in her door.
We walked out to the kitchen. I leaned on the counter, while El waited until the right time to show up.
"Hey, kid." My dad greeted as he flipped the toast.
"Hi." I responded smiling at El.
"Why are you smiling?" He asked weirdly.
"I can't smile now?" I question I tried to keep it in, but I couldn't help it I had to giggle.
"You never smile in the morning." He reminded me, smiling his self.
"Well I guess I'm just happy today." I replied as El went behind him.
He turned around,and saw her.
"Oh, Jesus!" He uttered startled.
"Ghost." El told him as he turned his attention back to the toast.
"Yeah, I see that." He told her as he walked to the counter I was leaning against
"Halloween."
"Sure is. But right now, it's breakfast, okay?Come on, let's eat." He replied as he put the toast on the plates and brought them to the counter I was leaning on.
"They wouldn't see me." She informed him as I sat down at the table.
"Who wouldn't see you?" My dad asked as he brought the plates to the table.
"The bad men." She badly explained.
"What are you talking about?" He questioned as he sat down.
"Trick or treat."
"You want to go trick-or-treating?" He asked and she nodded.
"Just think about it, dad. She never gets to go out, and I will be with her the whole night." I added on after I took a bite of my food.
"You know the rules." He reminded standing up to looking at her better.
"Yes, but..." she tried to explain but he put his hands on her shoulders and cut her off.
"Yeah, so you know the answer."
She bargained with him more, about how you couldn't tell it was her.
"Yeah I can't even tell it's her." I explained smiling.
"I don't care, all right? You go out there, ghost or not, it's a risk. We don't take risks. All right?
They're stupid, and..." he wanted us to finish the sentence.
"We're not stupid!" She basically quietly yelled.
"We're not stupid..." I mumbled wiping the smile off my face.
"Exactly. Now, you take that off, sit down and eat. Your food's getting cold." He demanded while he walked to sit down, and so did she. She took off her sheet, I mean ghost costume.
"All right, look... How about I get off early tonight, and I buy us a bunch of candy, and we can sit around and get fat, and we watch a scary movie together? How's that for a compromise?" He suggested making her confused.
I knew I already had plans, but it hurt really bad he didn't ask me to come. We used to always do that together, and now I'm being replaced.
"Compromise?"
"C-O-M-promise. Compromise. How about that's your word for the day? Yeah? It's something that's kinda in-between. It's like halfway happy." He explained leaning closer to her.
"By 5-1-5?" She questioned.
"5:15. Yeah, sure." He answered nodding.
"Promise?" She asked and I felt as if I wasn't even there.
"Yes. I promise." He was infamous for not keeping promises.
"Halfway happy." She responded making both of them smile, and making me frown.
"Where did your smile go?" My dad wondered still smiling.
"Well I'm not that happy anymore." I told him getting up to put my plate in the sink.
"Why are you mad?" He asked as I washed off my plate.
"I'm not." I explained walking to the front door.
"Then smile it looks good on you." He said joking around, but I wasn't laughing.
"Yea I gonna go." I told him as I put my shoes on.
"Already?"
"Yea I'm gonna go early." I informed him while I walked out the door.
