"It's fake."

"What is?" I eyed my best friend across the table.

"The diamond," Peter pointed to the gorgeous engagement ring on my hand. "It's not genuine."

"Pete," I sighed frustratedly. "We've been over this. You're superstitious about everything having to do with me and Carter because you're jealous. That doesn't mean you have to try and make him look bad."

I was just about to stand and leave the table but as I turned to leave my seat, I heard a web shoot and my hand felt cold.

I closed my eyes with a heavy sigh. "Peter."

"I'm not letting you go back there. He's- bad news."

"Peter Parker, you take this web off my hand right now or so help me god."

"Or what?" I could hear the smirk in his voice before I saw it. Because he knows. "I know damn well you're not gonna do anything to me. You love me too much for that."

"Peter? I'm home! Help me put away these groceries?" May emerged into the dining room/kitchen where Peter and I were. She spotted the web on my hand and scowled at Peter.

"You let that girl go right now, mister. You're too old now to be playing those games. I'm sure she's busy and has lots to do with that new engagement!"

Peter reluctantly removed the web. As I was peeling off the remnants of the white silk I hugged May.

She took my hand into hers and marveled at my ring.

"Oh, it's beautiful! What a lucky girl."

"It's fake..." Peter muttered under his breath.

I shot a scowl back at Peter before smiling back at May. "It really is. We've been so busy with planning."

"Oh, I'm sure! Do you have a date for the wedding?!"

"Well... it's only been a week," I lightly chuckled. "But we're thinking by Christmas?"

"Oh!! A Christmas wedding!!" May clasped her hands over her chest and beamed. "I love that idea!! It'll be so beautiful!"

"I know! I've... dreamt of a winter wedding since I was-"

"Twelve," Peter finished. "I remember you telling me you wanted the colors to be red and green. You wanted Christmas trees everywhere and lights. Like-"

"The North Pole," We said in unison. I gave him a halfhearted smile but he just nodded and looked down.

"I'll uh... go get those groceries for you, May."

Peter left the small house, causing May to frown. I did as well. Guilt slowly creeping it's way into my heart.

"You've just gotta give him time, honey."

"I know. I just... can't help but feel like the more often I come around the harder it is for him. Like... I shouldn't be around much."

"Well. If you think it'll help," May nodded with a soft sigh. "Maybe it's for the best."

I nodded as well and hugged her again. "You have a nice night, Aunt May. I love you."

"You too, honey. Love you too."

I passed by Peter on the way out of the house and tried to stop him to apologize but he brushed past me without a word. He didn't even look at me.

I stood there and did my best to blink away the tears, then emerged out onto the streets of autumn-struck New York and started my walk home.

Trying to rid the guilt very quickly flooding my heart.

Forgetting I'd left my scarf at Peter's.
