"Memories are a noun that gives you the ability to remember information, experiences, and people. Memories could be happy or sad." Cambridge Dictionary.
My memories of that summer is a recollection of bright colors, deep water, stars, warm brown, the moon, and goosebumps.
The thrill of living a full life is sometimes limited by our own fears of the unknown. I have always planned my own life step by step. I had made to-do lists for everything I experienced. However, that summer was different. Everything that happened during those four weeks of summer, I didn't plan.
My initial summer vacation plan was supposed to go this way; late afternoon lake swim with my two best friends Cole and Farah, hunting down Rage Against The Machine's third album cassette, helping dad fix his 1961 Ford Lincoln Continental, having an internship at my dad's boss' other firm, and stirring clear of any place that Jane might be at. And, by Jane I meant my ex high school sweetheart.
You see we dated for four years, however, during my first year at university she dumped my ass. She told me she couldn't do long distance. I totally do understand that if that was the truth. But, you see, she was lying. She was cheating on me with our high school friend Mike. It's been three years since we broke up and both of them are still going strong. I have moved on if that's what you are wondering. But, I still couldn't get past the fact that she broke my heart and just did it through a text while I was getting ready to sit for an exam.
Lakebay is a small town and we couldn't simply escape seeing each other. That's why avoiding Jane is a plan. Cole and Farah have been playing scouts for the last three years whenever we are in town for holidays and vacations. So, when they told me about their new plan for the summer, at first I thought that this plan has two sides; a good one as I will never have to play hide and seek with Jane and a bad one as my plans for the summer are going to be gone into the wind. However, I was in for a big surprise when I got to our summer destination.
I was in the garage when Cole and Farah stopped by. I was working on my dad's car when Cole told me about our new summer's plan.
"We are going to spend two weeks in Sandburg." Cole said as a matter of fact. He was relaxing on the chair by the garage's door while Farah was by my side helping me sort through car pieces.
"By we you mean you and Farah."
Farah exhaled loudly and nudged me on the rib. "Ouch! That hurts." I winced.
"So don't be an asshole and just go along with the plan without objection." Farah said through gritted teeth.
"For once in your life Nicholson don't make a fucking fuss!" Cole added as he stood up and started pacing the garage.
"Imagine the fun we are going to have! Beach parties, surfing, free booze, and endless possibilities dude!" He explained.
"It's not like I don't want to have fun! I just promised dad that I would help him with finishing fixing the car and I have to ..."
