The Chase Continues

Once you had fully healed, Ace and you left the island and continued traveling down Teach's path, gathering more information. Blackbeard was getting more popular and known. You saw him in the newspaper and heard small talk about him sometimes.

On a good note you and Ace had grown closer through all the events. You loved each other and Ace definitely showed it. He was very protective and loving. He would always buy you trinkets and set up small dates. Your teasing and joking stayed the same though. He was your best friend and lover.

"Hey love. Whatcha doing?" Ace asked behind your shoulder.

"Reading a book, genius," you said sarcastically. "You should try it sometime."

He sat next to you, laughing. "What's it about?"

"Devil fruits."

"You're doing research. How boring. At least you could read a novel or something. Let's do something fun."

"You sound like a child. Leave me alone. This is important you know."

"Doesn't look important," Ace grumbled under his breath.

You sighed and closed your book. "You won't let me read will you."

Ace grinned, giving you a peck on the cheek. "I love you."

You pouted. "Yeah yeah...love you too."

"So what were you researching anyways?"

"I want to figure out Teach's devil power. If we know that, we have a better chance at beating him," you paused. "I also wanted to maybe find out if I have a devil fruit power," you said quieter.

"You mean your other form and all?" Ace questioned.

"Yes," you mumbled.

"I was thinking about that. What if you try to control it? It's a really powerful gift. I'm sure it could be very useful."

"I don't know. It's too dangerous and you know that. I've been trying to hide it for years and now trying to control it...the memory hurts too much."

Ace gave you a hug. "I'm sure you can control it. I understand too. No one is pressuring you to do it. Take your time. And if you ever want to...I'd love to help you with it."

You smiled. "Thanks Ace. I'll figure it out. I got time, right?"

"All the time in the world, love."

That evening after dinner, Ace fell asleep, leaving you to get some things done. Train my power...I want to but I don't know if I can. I can't risk hurting anyone else. It's not a devil power either since I can still swim. So what is it? Could it be a family gift...more like curse?

You relaxed. It would be safer to try in the water. I can experiment. Although dark thoughts kept prodding at you, you brushed them away. You couldn't think of back then. 

You jumped into the water, feeling the cool sea engulf you. It was still light outside and you had at least a few hours before dark. You just hoped Ace stayed asleep. You wanted to do this on your own.

Alright. Focus.

You broke through the surface of the water and took a deep breath. After diving in the water again you relaxed, letting yourself sink deeper. You felt your other form screaming to let yourself go...to let it out. Not today. You're gonna follow my rules now.
