A short piece about the ending of VP in the show.

or,

VP hospital scene.

Vegas' eyes opened slowly one by one, adjusting to the bright sunlight that came through the open hospital room curtains, and surprisingly, Pete was still there. He didn't leave. There he stood - not only as a figment of his imagination but really there, in the flesh; the embodiment of his affection. Oh, and he shined, oh how he shined - brighter than the sun, brighter than any star.

When Pete noticed him awake, he smiled. His beautiful smile made Vegas smile right back at him. "Are you up?" Pete asked.

"For a while now." Yes, I was watching you. "And where have you been?" Although Vegas knew that Pete didn't owe him a damn thing, he couldn't help but feel restless every time he woke up and didn't see him. The other man really became his whole world now, his safe place.

"I bought some food for Macau," Pete had said in return, touching the takeaway bag and coming closer to Vegas, "in case he wakes up and gets hungry. There's also yellow curry rice."

Pete sat on the bed, looking at Vegas lovingly. The latter couldn't understand him though - why did he stay with the man who hurt him more than one could even imagine? He was a monster, an evil man undeserving of the compassion Pete offered him, of the sacrifices Pete made for him. If he wanted to leave he would let him. Better now than later, everyone left him at some point in life.

"Why? Why are you still here?"

"I can't run off to anywhere." I have nowhere else to go anymore, I made my choice. I chose you Vegas, I chose you. I chose love.

Pete saw the tears starting to accumulate in Vegas' eyes and immediately squeezed his lover's hand. He wanted to reassure him that he was not planning on leaving. Not now, not ever.

With eyes full of tears Vegas said, "If you run now, I'm all right with that." He was definitely not all right with that. But he could never say it to Pete, he didn't have the right, not after everything he had done to him.

"I've got nothing left." I lost everything that I had. I have nothing to offer you now. I'm not even sure I have a home to return to. Do you really want to be with someone as broken as me?

"I don't want to be your burden." He didn't want to bother him. Such a beautiful soul like Pete choosing someone as fucked up as him? This can't be what he wanted. Truth be told, Vegas had something to his name before, he had something to offer. He was Vegas Theerapanyakun - the heir of the minor family. He had status, he had money, and he had his strong and sexy façade. He wasn't sure what was left from all of that though.

At that moment, Pete moved even closer to him, his body almost hovering over Vegas, ankles almost touching the bed, and palms holding Vegas' hands.

"I just wanna follow my heart." And if this wasn't the most beautiful, the most sincere, and basically the best thing Vegas had heard in his life. He never felt happier than at this moment. He wouldn't want it in any other way. If he could choose - winning against the main family and not getting shot or being here, at this moment, with Pete - he would choose the latter without a heartbeat.

"From now on you're no longer my pet. You're the most important person in my life."

Pete couldn't contain the happiness he was feeling hearing these words. It was all he ever wanted for them - to be in a relationship, to be equals, to feel equal.

Vegas put his hands on Pete's nape and kissed him. It was a sweet kiss that made Pete's mind blank. Who would have thought that the scary-looking Vegas was so soft? Even when they slept together Vegas was gentle - gentler than he ever thought that Vegas would be, could be.

What the lovebirds didn't know was that some cheeky boy; the boy who was sleeping on the chair nearby, was actually awake.

"There, there!" Macau said teasingly while standing up. "That was pretty fast. You're absolutely something," he added as he put his hand on Pete's shoulder. "Anyway welcome to the family, my in-law." Macau was squeezing Pete's shoulder and arm with his hands, making him smile in embarrassment.

"Yes," answered Pete, totally at a loss of words.

"Macau, why didn't you say anything when you woke up?" Said Vegas who couldn't believe his tactless brother. But he still couldn't hide the happiness he was feeling inside. "I was eavesdropping," said the amused kid. "Hey don't be shy," he told Pete. That made Vegas tell Pete the same thing as his hand motioned him to come and lie down.

"I'll join you," said Macau excitingly as he put his hands on Pete, hugging him from behind.

Pete and Macau were lying on Vegas' legs as he kissed each one of them: Macau on the forehead and Pete on the cheek. They were all smiling; truly happy to be together like this.

The three of them made a beautiful picture, a picture of a little family; their little family. Vegas swore to himself that he would cherish this forever. He would not take the gift that Pete gave him for granted - the gift of acceptance, the gift of forgiveness, the gift of love.

You see, Vegas wasn't much of a sentimental guy. He used to feel indifference towards many aspects of life. But since he met Pete, it felt like he constantly wore his heart on his sleeve. Pete tore him apart, wide open, and he couldn't be more thankful for he was scared of unrecognizing himself one day. He thought that the hole he dug for himself was too deep, but Pete managed to convince him otherwise - since a man like Pete would never choose an irredeemable person, would he?

Vegas was happy for the second chance he got. He lost and he gained. It felt like being reborn again, but now, to a better life. A life that had Pete around. Life is surprising that way - the man he thought would never be his, chose him in the end.

Yes, he would not take this for granted. He would never let this ray of sunshine go.
