"Saja, hurry up! Bawal tayong malate!" I called out for Sam. "Pababa na po, Mama Lens!" Sam answered.
Today is Risa's birthday. Sinundo ko si Sam as bahay ni Miguel dahil Sam and I have decided to surprise Risa. It's not a big surprise dahil ayaw naman ni Ris ng mga bonggang surprise. Just a cake and some flowers for her, that simple.
"Eto na yung flowers and cake." Miguel gave me the bouquet of pink flowers and cake na pinabili ko sa kaniya kanina. "Thank you, Miguel. Sasama ka ba samin?" I asked Miguel. "May tatapusin muna ako. Baka sumunod nalang ako sainyo."
Sam gave his Papa a hug. "Magpakabait, Samuel James. Huwag pasakitin ang ulo ng Mama Leni mo." Miguel told Sam. "Yes, Papa. Promise."
"Ingat kayo ah?" Miguel looked at me and gave me a small smile.
"Mag iingat kami."
We got into the car and drove to the place. I gave Sam the flowers after I parked my car. "You gave that to Mama while I'm going to give her this cake. we'll sing happy birthday as we walked towards her okay?" Sam nodded as an answer.
Bumaba kami ng kotse and we started singing happy birthday to Risa as we walked towards her grave. Sam and I blew the candle and we sat on the ground.
It's been two months since the accident that took Risa's life happened. Since then, our life has never been the same again. Akala ko nga hindi ko kayang mabuhay ng walang Risa sa tabi ko at naisip ko ding sumunod nalang kay Risa. Pero hindi pwede. I promised Risa na aalagaan ko ang anak namin. Kaya hindi pwedeng basta basta nalang akong susuko.
Hindi man namin kasama si Risa ngayon pero half of her is with Sam. Sam is her own flesh and blood, Sam may not be mine but I treat him as my own.
"Hello, Mama! Happy birthday!" Sam placed the flower on the ground with care. "I'm happy and sad at the same time because I miss you, Mama. But don't worry, Mama Lens is here taking care of me. Papa, Mama Lens, and I attended the family day sa school ko last week. It'll be more fun sana kung nandun ka pero I know naman na you're watching over us. I hope you're not mad when I drink lots of chocolate milk. I will try to lessen it but I can't promise you that, Mama. I hope you're happy up there. Happy birthday, Mama. I love you!" Sam gave a flying kiss to his mother's grave.
My eyes are welling up with tears. Sam sometimes gets nightmares about the accident kahit wala siya dun. He told me that he saw how Risa's car crashed and then he'll wake up crying and looking for Risa. I can't do much but I always try my best to help him.
"Can I eat the cake na?" Sam asked which made me laugh. "Sure, anak. I'll slice it for you."
I gave Sam a slice of cake for him to eat while watching on his iPad.
I placed my hand on Risa's tomb. "Pangga..." I took a deep breath to steady myself. "H-Happy Birthday. Kamusta ka na diyan? Miss mo ba kami? Kasi kami, miss na miss ka na namin. Our life has never been the same since the day you left me- us. I miss your hugs, your kisses, and your voice. I noticed how our best friends try their best not to mention your name whenever I'm with them. I told them that it was okay. I know you never left us. Because you're somewhat in Sam. Hindi ako pwedeng sumuko dahil binigyan mo ako ng isang Sam. Sam is my reminder to keep going in life kahit wala ka na. Mahirap pa ring tangapin, Ris. Ikaw pa rin ang hinahanap ng puso ko. I can't see myself falling for someone again. Sayo lang ako na in love ng ganto. No one can replace the love that you gave me, My Ana Theresia. Gaya nga ng sabi natin, 'lagi't lagi' . Lagi mong tatandaan na kahit wala ka na, ikaw lang ang mamahalin ko. Thank you for the memorable five years that you gave me. I will keep on yearning for you and your love. Mahal na mahal kita, pangga. Let's continue our cut-short love story in our next life, pangga. I hope I'll find you at the same coffee shop five years ago. I will love you 'til our next life, pangga.
