I drive through the not so pearly gates of the trailer park and notice a sign in the distance. Once I got closer I can read that the sign says 'CORRODED COFFIN BASS AUDITIONS HERE' with an arrow pointed to the trailer to the left of it. I find a parking spot as my car splutters when I change gear.
"Stupid fucking piece of junk." I grumble.
I turn off the engine and clamber out of the driver door, carefully shutting the door behind me because the last thing I need is for my car to turn in to a pile of rubble and walk 5 miles with a Gibson strapped to my back. I grab my bass from the trunk before heading to the trailer. I feel myself getting more nervous as I make my way to the door. Why am I so nervous? Is it because I'm afraid they won't like what I've chosen to play? The way I play it? Or is it because I know how stunningly handsome one of the members are? I snap myself out of my thoughts before taking a couple deep breaths.
"Don't be an idiot and fuck it up, Anna. You got this. You're the best damn bass player Hawkins has never seen." Before I can even attempt to knock in the door, it swings open and knocks me to the floor.
"What the fuck, man?" I snap.
"Shit, shit, shit I'm so fucking sorry I didn't know you were out here. Let me help you up."
I was about to tell them to stick their apology up their ass before I recognised the hand that was held out before me. I know those rings, especially since I haven't been able to stop thinking about them all day. My eyes travel up to his face noticing the joint slotted between his lips. I snapped out of the daze he had put me in and took his hand, standing up from the ground. I rubbed the back of my head to feel the slight bump that was forming. I looked back up to his face to see the visible worry that was settled in his features.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked, his tone laced with nervousness.
"No, no I'm fine, just got spooked s'all." I laughed, awkwardly.
"You're sure? I can grab some peas or something from the freezer."
"I'm fine, honestly. Thanks though, I appreciate it." I smiled softly. This seemed to reassure him before he exhaled through his nostrils before sparking up the end of his joint. He took a hit, blowing the smoke out of the side of his mouth so it wouldn't go in to my face. Then realisation hit him.
"What exactly were you doing outside of my door anyway?" He questioned with a raised brow. I just pointed to my guitar case that was on the floor.
"You're auditioning for us?"
"No, I just like to hang outside random trailers in hope that I get knocked out and can sue if my bass gets damaged in the process."
"Okay, I get the picture, it was a stupid question. No need for the attitude, sweetheart." He chuckled. The way that my heart rate increased so quickly just by a single word was not necessary. I barely even know this guy, in fact, I didn't even know who he really was until this afternoon yet he makes me nervous. I couldn't even try to hide the blush that was creeping its way across my cheeks. This made him smirk as he stubbed his joint out in to the bucket beside the picnic bench he was perched on. He picked up my guitar case before opening the door to his trailer and looking at me over his shoulder.
"Are you gonna show me whatcha got or are you gonna stand there and twiddle your thumbs all day?" He said, cheekily.
"Right, yeah."
I followed him inside the trailer and saw 2 other people sitting there. These obviously must be his bandmates. Eddie flopped down on to the sofa after handing me my guitar case. I take my bass out of it and fling the strap over my head.
