The branches gently brushed through her golden blonde hair as her hips dipped with the gentle movements of her horse. The smell of fresh pine trees filled her nose and birds chirped happily in the trees above. Small twigs and leaves crushed beneath the horses hooves as they came to a stop by a stream.Florence dismounted her horse and picked a beautiful white flower and placed it gently in her hair behind her ear. She sat by the stream and listen to the steady flow of the water while she folded some flowers into a flower crown, her horse laying peacefully.
As she looked up to pick another flower, a fox sat at the other side of the stream. It sat tranquilly and blinked slowly as the breeze ruffled it's fur. Florence stood up slowly and placed her finished flower crown on her head before gracefully mounting her horse once again. She patted it's neck gently and it began to trot back round in a circle to go home. Flo looked back in awe, staring in the foxes eyes and waving goodbye calmly.
They left the forest and entered a feild on the cliff, looking over the sea and beaches of Avonlea. She gently pushed her heal into her horse and it began to gallop through the long grassed feilds. The grass brushed her legs and swayed amongst them as she let go of the reigns and but her hands in the air, her blue dress flowing in the wind.
She giggled lightly as she lost her balance and quickly wrapped her arms around the neck of her horse, closing her eyes and breathing deeply.
Florence pulled the reigns on willow, guiding her round the corner to the driveway. They trotted down the cobble path to the stables as Flo quickly tried to adjust herself. She dismounted and walked willow the rest of the way. Once she reached her stable she gently removed her bridle and kissed her on the nose and softly rubbing where the bridle once sat. She closed the gate to the stables and grabbed her hat, running towards the door. She was late.
"Florence Williams where have you been! Look at the state of your boots and your dress. This his an outrage! I cannot believe you went riding in your lovely blue dress and put those wild things in your hair!" Her mother yelled as Flo's face dropped as it once smiled, happy to be home.
"Don't you look at me like that Flora. Your dinner is cold. You may as well go upstairs and dress for bed. And sort out your hair for heaven's sake girl!"
Florence frowned, taking the beautiful flowers from her hair. She turned and headed up the stairs before she stopped " and take off those muddy boots before you go up those stairs. Mabel just cleaned the carpet!"
Her face screwed up as she looked at the crumbs of mud behind her. She turned around, heading back down and sinking into the bottom step to untie her laces. She pulled them off and carried in up the stairs. Trying not to let her mother's harsh words get to her, she began to smile again as she added her new flower crown to her collection, placing it on her dresser.
The poor girl pulled off her blue dress and hung it over her desk chair before dressing in her night wear. She sat down in the window as it was cushioned and held the most gorgeous views of the country side and especially the sunset and sunrises. Florence liked Canada and thought it was a good move for the family. She certainly couldn't ride willow back at home as there was nowhere really to ride her. Florence arrived a few weeks ago during the Easter holidays and had met Diana. They became friends over the short period of time and she had stated that she couldn't wait for her to meet Anne as she thinks they are very alike.
Flo was excited. She brushed her hair in the evening light, pulling out a few odd little flowers. She wondered who she would meet in this beautiful town. Flora wasn't a rich girl but was certainly better off. She had a lovely white house and had a large garden filled with flowers and shrubs and the most romantical willow tree which she loved to sit under and read. Flo loved to help pick all the fresh fruits in the orchards in summer when she had come to visit in the past. But her favourite place was to sit on the edge of a headland of her back garden under a tree where her and Dianna had carved their names into. She kept blankets there along with a few pillows to go on the swinging bench. She could sit there for hours if her mother would let her.
Florence snapped out of her day dream as she started I. The sunset when her mother knocked on her door.
"Florence come along, I'm going to put your hair in pins now, come take a seat at your vanity." Her mother commanded, entering her room with her hair I pins herself.
Florence sat down as she waited for her mum to tug and pull on her hair.
"Do you miss England darling?" Victoria asked.
"Certain aspects of it if course, But I prefer the country side and beautiful scenery here." Flora replied with a smile.
"I could certainly see that when you arrived home. But we will visit England soon darling don't worry."
Mother said, continuing with her pins and tying my hair. Florence liked her hair being curly but it came with a price, her hair was naturally sort of wavey but she didn't mind, she liked it like that.
"There." Victoria said, no longer pulling at Flo's grogeous blonde hair. "Beauty is pain my love."
"I suppose. "
"Goodnight Florence. School in the morning."
"Goodnight mother."
Flora rose from her vanity and stepped towards the window once again and stared out in the amazing sunset as the sun sat almost in the sea, nearing darkness.
