Chapter 10 - Monsters Under the Bed

"Well, that was certainly new," said Viago.

Vampire and werewolf were snugly entombed in the compartment beneath the bed that Anton had made to keep Viago safe from the sun. Their clothes had come off before they'd crawled in, in a rather frantic (and at times animalistic) way.

There were a lot of banged elbows and smacked skulls as the men tried to figure out how to get sexy under a bed that was raised off the ground a little - but not enough for regular shenanigans. Eventually, they figured things out

"Is your head all right?" Anton asked from where he was curled up along Viago's side, his head against the vampire's shoulder.

"Oh, yes, yes. I'm all right. And you?"

"Ah, well, that nail did dig into my arm quite a bit. My own fault, really. I should have done a better job of putting this together." Anton peered at his arm that was indeed developing a bit of a welt. "It's going to leave a pretty deep bruise. But honestly, I'm sort of used to odd bumps and bruises."

"Ah yes, because of the transformation," said Viago with an understanding nod.

"Actually, it's because I'm a roofer."

"There is a job where you smoke reefers?" There was a note of wonder in the vampire's voice.

Anton's brow furrowed. "No, I put roofs on houses. And repair them. Lots of nail-related injuries in my line of work. I've actually been considering changing careers."

"To what?"

"Well, being out here has made me consider becoming a park ranger or a wilderness guide. It could help keep the hunters out of the woods and give my pack a safe place to transform."

"Ah, yes. Then you could avoid the nails," said Viago awkwardly as he patted Anton's shoulder.

Now that the pressure valve between them had been released, the dandy vampire's confidence was slipping. He was starting to feel a bit vulnerable, and not just because he could feel that the sun had risen. That meant Anton had to stay under the bed with him until sunset, just to be safe.

Anton shifted to make himself more comfortable, then gently kissed the underside of Viago's jaw. He slid fingers along his cheek and then nibbled a little, slightly pointed canines pressing gently into his neck.

The nibble made Viago giggle and squirm. Then, something occurred to him. He leaned in and inhaled deeply, nose up against Anton's hair. He shifted, then inhaled again, sat up, breathed in, then pressed his nose against the curve of the other man's arm for another deep intake of breath.

"Viago..." said Anton, smiling and squirming a bit, "What are you doing?"

"Something is...different," Viago sat up on his elbow and hovered over the werewolf. "You smell different." Most vampires hated the smell of werewolves. He had gotten used to Anton's scent, and had formed positive associations with it because he liked the man. But he had still found it strong and distinct.

He realized that despite their close quarters and lack of airflow, Anton now smelled sweet, musky, and comforting.

Anton looked up at Viago a bit shyly. "Ah, I was wondering if it would happen to a vampire. Seeing as you don't actually need to breathe and all."

"Wait, what has happened?" asked Viago.

"Well..." Anton stroked a hand down the vampire's arm. "We...mated. There are a couple of ways into a werewolf pack. Sex is one of them."

"Wait...I am a werewolf now? You did bite me but I did not think it was enough to break the skin." Viago's eyes got wide and he started to speak quickly. "Oh, I don't know if I will look good all hairy. I tried to grow a beard once and Vladislav and Deacon said I looked like I had stuff glued to my face. Petyr was nicer about it, but the consensus was that it was not a good look for me, you know. And..."
