Octavius Demonicus
The Royal Beta

From his restless sleep, tossing and turning on his massive four-poster bed, the significant transition in the kingdom he was born into, greatly agitated him through the night.

Octavius was awakened by a sudden surge of emotions. Leaving him so bereft that he had to take measures.

He bolted from his mattress like the furniture electrocuted him.

The connection. In his heart, strings of flames were ignited, asking his soul to be connected.

He could feel it. Closer than he imagined. Every fiber in him wanted to run to her.

To his mate.

He had assumed she would be in another continent and he had to travel the world in search of the other half of his soul. But no.  She was within reach.

Instinctively, he knew where to find her.

Letting his wolf, Rúnier, out, jumping from the high windows in his bedroom, he bolted into the dense forests through the break of dawn, uncaring of the dangers that could befall him. He was strong enough to fight hindrances coming his way.

Both invigorating and serene, he cherished the bittersweet ache of yearning it brought to his heart while he ran to his destiny.

The cool, crisp air, soft light filtering through the trees, and the peaceful sounds of nature all around created an enchanting atmosphere.

Though, he cared about none of those for now. Nothing, except to reach his mate.

Almost near her, he was laden with awe and excitement. The most precious gift he had been waiting for these past centuries was within his reach.

Dragging a nervous sigh, stopping at the edge of the Lycan Kingdom, he was surprised to find himself near the waterfront.

The little town was quiet. No one was up and about yet.

Dawn was still hovering on the horizon.

Where was his mate?

Chest heaving, he took a deep breath. Sweet scent of cinnamon filled his starved lungs. She was here all along. Right under his nose.

Mate!

Growling impatiently, wondering why he stopped, Rúnier kept racing circles in his head, snarling at him.

What are you waiting for? Go to her, human!

Fuck! Where?

The bakery!

He snapped the words to Octavius like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Of course! The Moon Goddess and her surprises, always the master at pairing.

Let us hope her runes will not burn us today.

We are immune. Go, now! Mount her fast. It's time I mark her.

Oh, shit! The Royal Beta was sure as the sky was blue that the marking and mating would not be happening today. Though he was hoping for a kiss.

Witches were known to be stubborn and his mate was one. Ah, but he was relentless. He would breach her barriers come evening.

His long strides brought him to her doorstep, surprised her invisible protective porticoes had allowed him entry without any fuss. Hesitantly, his knuckles gave a sharp knock. Then another. The third time was more firmly. He was careful not to break her door.
