"Come on dufus we're going to be late!" I scream through the phone at Charlie. It's the first day of school and I'm parked in front of his house, waiting for him. 3 minutes later, he comes out wearing a buttoned shirt, American eagle jeans, and Nikes. "You cannot be serious," I said, looking at him when he gets in the car. "What? It's the first day. I got to represent myself, you know?" I chuckled as I put the car in drive, rolled the windows down and turned the music up. "Slide," by The Goo Goo dolls, blasts through the speakers.

It's been 3 months since Imani passed away. After I read that letter with tears in my eyes, I bawled my eyes out for the rest of that night, and didn't leave my room for days, once again. Owen left food at my door since I locked myself in. Sometimes he would sit by the door and just talk to me about random things to make me feel better, but I wasn't budging.
A few days after that I thought it'd be nice to visit Ms. Alvero to see how she's holding up. When I knocked on the door, her eyes were red and droopy like mine, but she still smiled and welcomed me inside. I talked to her for hours and she made me a cup of tea.
I asked her if I could hang out in Imani's room for a little while and she nodded. I never left her room that day. It was exactly how she left it: the covers not made, spirals on the desks and books stacked on the floor. For the next few days, I slept in her bed and talked to her as if she were there. That cherry smell her hair always had filled her room too. I felt home, and never wanted to leave.
It makes me really sad to think how I truly thought I'd never be happy again. That I'd never be able to experience a normal life and make new friends. But she was right. Seasons did change and the months did go on, but that's the saddest part.. My therapist sad this one quote and it really made me see things differently,
''No matter how dark and gloomy it looks in your life right now, if you'll release the weight of those burdens, you will rise higher and you will see the sun break forth in your life."
I don't know what it was about that one quote, but it changed everything from there on out.
After many therapy sessions I finally started waking up with a sense of purpose. My mom no longer had to brush my hair, my teeth, and force me to shower. I no longer locked myself in my room and stared at the wall. Things slowly got better. I slowly got better.

We pulled up in the student parking lot of the school. I grabbed my bag and extra pair of shoes. "Alrighty. I'll see you later?" I said to Charlie. "You're just going to leave me?" he says sarcastically. "I have to go to tryouts. You'll be fine I promise." I take out the keys and we get out of the car. "We have our AP classes together, so I'll see you then 'kay?" Charlie nods and turns around to head to the field.
You're probably wondering what the hell I'm trying out for since I HATED sports last year... and it's football. Over the summer I hung out with Owen and his friend and we played a ton of it. . I didn't like It at first, but It started to grow on me so I decided to take that risk just like Imani told me and she's right. I need to get my shit together and do all the things I've been wanting to do.
This is the first time where I'm not self conscious. I've been working out and I'm no longer skinny. Look at me now Edward.
Football tryouts were like a breeze. I took a quick shower, got ready, and headed to first period. It feels weird walking these hallways without her. In May when I went back to school, I changed lockers and changed my route to class because I couldn't stand looking at her locker. I just couldn't, but now it's just a regular locker and someone else has it now.
The bell rang and I quickly grabbed my notebook for physics and headed down the hall.
The teacher was a lady in her late 20s. I'm assuming she's a new teacher because I haven't seen her before last year. Her eyes lit up when she saw me in the doorway. "Hi! And what's your name?" she says in a Jolly tone. I was the first person there. I smile back. "Hi. I'm Dylan."
"Dylan who?" she asks. "Gibson."
"Ohhh you're Owens brother are you?" I nod. "I had him last year. You'll be in the middle row, second one down on the left."
I sit my things down and wait until the tardy bell rings. The classroom is full of a few empty seats, one next to me. When the teacher begins to close the door and start the lesson, someone comes trembling in.
"Sorry! I couldn't find your classroom." I look up and see a girl wearing blue leggings and a white dress. Her short hair is in 2 pigtails. "And who you may be?" asked the teacher.
"Pandora. Pandora Moon."She looks around the room but stops when she gets to me. I hold her gaze. "Andddd you're right over there. Third row." When Pandora sit's, she looks over at me and I look at her again this time and smile. For some reason it made me think of her.
"Hi," she whispered.
"Hi."
"What's your name?"
"Dylan. And you're Pandora?" She nods. "Yeah. I'm new here. Nice to meet you." She reaches out a hand. "Nice to meet you too."
