Mackenzie enjoyed the beautiful Brisbane skyline. He thought about how he lived in the greatest city in the world. The morning breeze felt good on his fur. Today was going to be a good day.
Mackenzie's Mum: "Mackenzie let's go! We have to go back to school shopping."
Today was going to be a bad day.
Back to school. A simple phrase that meant many different things to Mackenzie. Tests, stress, and drama just to name a few. However, Mackenzie tried to look on the bright side. He would get to see his friends and he would get to play sports again. Over the summer, Mackenzie rarely saw his friends. He mostly hung out with Lucky, his best friend, despite a feud with him during their sophomore year.
Mackenzie's Mum: "Are you excited to go shopping today?"
Mackenzie: "To be honest Mum, no not at all"
Mackenzie's Mum: "Oh it'll be fun"
"Fun" was going to all the boring stores for very long hours and not going to the food court or the cool video game store.
And so a good 3 ½ hours passed of boring shopping. Mackenzie didn't care what his backpack looked like, he just wanted to go home.
Later
Mackenzie's Mum: "Get ready for bed"
Mackenzie: "Okay"
Mackenzie's Mum: "And don't stay up too late. I know that you've been up very late this summer"
Mackenzie: "Yes Mum. I am going to bed now"
Mackenzie's Mum: "You still need to clean your teeth!"
Mackenzie: "Oh yeah"
Mackenzie's Mum: "I'm going to have a junior and he can't even remember to clean his own teeth"
Mackenzie: "Night, see you in the morning"
That night, Mackenzie had bad dreams. Most of the time, Mackenzie would have great dreams but this night was full of his worst insecurities. He would wake up in a pool of sweat relieved that the nightmare wasn't real. Too bad the nightmare that was high school did exist and Mackenzie couldn't run from that.
Bluey
Beep...beep...beep
Bluey rose out of bed. Today was the first day of school and she had some mixed feelings.
Bingo: "Bluey, today is the big day!"
Bluey: "Yeah. I'm glad your excited"
Bingo: "I can't wait to go to big kid school!"
Bluey: "You're going to love it"
Bluey thought about what she said trying to think if it made any sense at all. Big kid school was stressful and long and boring at times. But there were some good things as well.
Bandit: "Girls! I've made a special brekky!"
B&B: "Coming Dad!"
While eating brekky, Bingo asks Bluey for advice.
Bingo: "What do I need to know about big kid school?"
Bluey: "Just try to be friends with everyone and do your homework?"
Bluey didn't really have much of an answer. It was complicated.
The girls finished their breakfast and said their goodbyes to their emotional parents before heading off to the bus stop.
Bingo: "I'm going to sit with Lila on the bus if that's okay"
Bluey: "Yeah that's fine"
The bus arrived and they were headed to school for the first time in the new year.
