The walls of the small cell were stone cold. A small, square, barred window, too high to reach, let in sunshine, showing the flying dust particles I breathed in. A few wooden planks formed a bench that connected itself to the stone bricks. Outside my barred chamber stood stiff guards keeping me on watch by the light of candles.
I laid my head against the side of the structure and dazed. Thinking about Merlin, how much stress I must be putting on him. Lady Morgana and how she must be planning my death at this moment, being she knew of my location. King Arthur, I must've made such a horrible first impression saying I broke into his castle like that.
And Mordred..."Evangeline!"
My state of wonder shattered making me notice the crystal blue-eyed knight putting his face up against the steel bars.
I stumbled getting up and placed my hands under where his were and met his eyes."Mordred!" I said with sweet relief.
"Are you hurt? Are you okay?
Goodness, Evangeline! What are you doing in Camelot?
How on earth did you get out of Morgana's territory!" he sputteredI laughed, "Yes, yes I'm fine!", he was so worried about me.
"I ran through the forest! With the help of one of the servants here, I made my way to Camelot. It's so good to see you again, Mordred!" I gave a slight hum through my smile, "You're a Camelot's knight now, hm?"
I reached through the one of the openings and placed a hand on his chest-plate.Mordred smiled and nodded. But suddenly questioned,
"Servant? What servant?"Almost immediately after he asked, Merlin in his signature red scarf and blue tunic came rushing into the dungeon.
"Evangeline!" he shouted as he almost pushed Mordred over running into him.
"Merlin!" I exclaimed smiling my greatest.
Mordred gave Merlin a mean glare and unbelievingly stressed, "Merlin, helped you into Camelot?"
I nodded and the two boys exchanged looks.
"Wait, you two know each other?" Merlin asked with a puzzled face pointing at us.
"Yes, he kept me company in the dark rule of Morgana and he'd help me when I needed it. We were close" I said with a smile looking at Mordred.
He nodded and chuckled and stared down Merlin. Merlin saw this time, but brushed him off and focused on the girl standing behind bars.
"What did you do to get yourself in the dungeons?" he asked in shock.
I blushed a little embarrassed and confessed, "I left to go searching for you, but I forgot that King Arthur didn't know of my stay. He found me and charged me with trespassing"
Merlin's eyes grew wide and ran his hands through his coal dark hair.
"I'm so sorry Evangeline! I should've made sure Arthur knew! This is all my fault"I smiled a pitiful smile and assured him, "It's not your fault, Merlin-"
Mordred let out an exaggerated cough, "Yes it is".
I shook my head at him with a smirk, and reached my hand out to hold his wrist.
"I'll be alright. I'm used to sleeping in a cell. Everything will be fine."
Mordred became furious from my sentence.
"No one should ever be comfortable sleeping in the dungeon, especially not you Evangeline! You deserve so much better!" he ranted.
"Mordred's right. We're going to get you out of there" Merlin said with a sure face.
Mordred nodded again with true agreement.
I looked down and shook my head, "Oh, I feel like I've gotten nowhere. I have to escape from the place I ran to to escape from my former location! I've caused you both enough trouble, dragging you two into all of this. I'm okay, really. As long as I'm safe and you two here, I have all I need" I let a smile show to make them ease.
"Evangeline" they both whispered. But soon the two boys were called to their duties to the castle and to enjoy the festivities of the celebration for the new knight, leaving me to be alone in the cell once more.
Maybe I'm just one who belongs in a dungeon.
