The Black Phone Chapter Six

The next morning, I left Robin's house very early as I had to go home and get my things for
school, it was Friday after all and I hadn't planned to sleep over at his house, it was 6.15 in
the morning and the sun was just beginning to rise, it was a little cold and I forgot my
jacket at Robin's house.

I was lost in my thoughts when suddenly I see a black van following me, the street was
practically empty, it was still very early, "surely it's someone on his way to work" I thought
and kept walking but the minutes passed and the van had not passed me, that was already
weird but there was only one street left until I got to my house so I just quickened my
pace I was so focused on getting home that I didn't see the step of the sidewalk and I fell
to the ground scraping my elbow but I didn't have time to think about it because I saw
that the van stopped just a few meters from me, Then I saw that a man got out of the van,
he was tall, he was dressed in a black sleeveless shirt and jeans but the strangest thing of
all is that he had face painted white.

My instinct was to back away as soon as I saw him approach.

-Wow, are you okay buddy? he asked me.

-"Yes, it's just a scratch, I have to hurry or I'll be late for school." I said to try to stand up
but the man grabbed my arm and forced me to sit down again.

-Not with that wound on your elbow, it can get infected, look I just have a Band-Aid in my
pocket.-- He finished with a smile that gave me chills even so I didn't want to be rude so I
let him put the damn Band-Aid on. The man took my arm and put the Band-Aid on me--
See, it didn't take long... What's your name?

The man scared me so much that he didn't want to tell him my real name.

-Taylor, Taylor Mullen.

-It's a nice name.-- He said touching my hair and putting it behind my ear.

-"Well thanks for the Band-Aid sir." I said to try to leave but the man grabbed my
shoulder.

-Wait, I'm a part-time magician, do you want to see a magic trick? - he asked me shaking a
can.

-I'm sorry but I'm late for class.-- I looked at my watch and it was 6:25 in the morning but
the man kept insisting. Luckily, a man approached to open his store and this for some
reason scared the man who quickly got into his truck and left. It was a relief since I didn't
want that stranger to see where I lived and that made me think of Robin, I wasn't sure if
this man was the same one I had seen outside his house, they certainly looked alike but I
couldn't be sure, even so I was worried, and if the man in Robin's house was The Grabber
and now he knew where he lived, that thought distressed me but after thinking about it a
little more I decided that it was nonsense and that maybe I had seen wrong that night.

I got home and ran to change and brush my teeth, I was leaving my room when Gwen
intercepted me in the hallway also ready for school.

-Dad told me you went to Robin's house.

-Yeah, we fell asleep watching movies and didn't want to come home at night.

–There was another disappearance yesterday.-- She told me.-- Bruce Yamada, the boy you
played baseball with a while ago... I freaked out Finn.

-Why?
-Before I knew that it was Bruce who had disappeared, I thought it was you, until
Dad remembered to tell me that you had gone to Robin's house.

I hugged her very hard --calm down Gweny, nothing is going to happen to me .-- I told her,
trying to comfort her, we lasted like this for a few seconds and then we separated from
her.

-Let's go or we'll be late for school...Ouch! What is wrong with you?! --I said rubbing my
arm since the shameless one had punched me.

-Bullshit, if you keep coming back home alone with empty streets their going to kidnap
your fucking dirty ass.

I just gave her a little kiss on the cheek and we headed to school.

We arrived and said goodbye.

-I love you Dumbass .-- she yelled at me-- See you at the exit!

-I love you and you owe me an ice cream little girl.-- I hurried inside and headed to my
locker I left my backpack and took the books I needed. Next to me a girl and her friend
arrived to talk.

-Robin Arellano looks more attractive since the disappearance of Vance Hopper and Bruce
Yamada--Said one of them.

-I totally agree, I think he will occupy the vacancy of the cutest boy in the school that the
two of them left.

-I ́ll learn Spanish for him.

The two girls left between giggles and murmurs. I closed my locker a little annoyed and
headed to class, before Vance and Bruse disappeared everyone saw Robin as one of the
toughest boys in school, and suddenly it turns out that half the school likes him. How
stupid.

-Hey! you didn't say goodbye Finney. --It was Robin who came putting his arm around my
shoulders, he seemed very happy and that made me forget what I had just heard.
