OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!
I can't stop screaming in my head, or maybe it's out loud, I can't tell.
"Is ... Is that.. mine?" my voice is just above a whisper.
Victoria laughs "Of course it's yours" She wiggles the keys in front of me smiling "I should have gotten this for you last year" she adds
I collect the car keys still not believing that Victoria actually got me a car
"I did expect it last year" I whine before crashing her with a tight hug "Aren't you just the best sister?" I ask and I hear her laugh.
After mum died, Victoria and I got along more.
After mum died alot of things changed.
I changed.
We had expected it, we knew she wouldn't make it. For a while she wasn't responding to treatment and she herself had started to accept that there was no way out of it.
Loosing her was worse than when dad had left us for his other family, worse than when she had thought Victoria was her daughter and not me, worse than leaving home over a year ago, worse than when Moses broke up with me on my last birthday, worse than all the things I felt were the actual worst.
But the worst things happen for the best of reasons some times.
And although I'll rather she be here with me right now I have accepted that what has happened has happened.
My phone rings just as in about to enter the car, my car. I'm too excited I don't even check who it is.
"Hellooo" I say the excitement all over my voice
"Happy birthday my baby"
"Amaka" I call smiling. "Thank you" I add.
The last time I saw Amaka was about a month ago, before I left for home.
I'm taking a break from the city, as much as I have gotten fond of the area, i missed home.
I'm happy she called though, it makes me know that even though I'm not currently living next door she's still my friend, that I'm not just some neighbor she talks to simply because we're neighbors.
All month we've been calling and texting and it's as if we're not six hours apart.
"We miss you, aren't you coming back?" she asks
"I should be back by weekend" I tell her
"Everyone's saying hi" she says
"You're with them?"
"I'll put you on speaker" Immediately she puts me on speaker I hear everybody shout 'happy birthday"
"Thank you guys so much"
"George wants to say hi" Amaka whispers
"George wants to say hi!" I assume it's Tobi who repeats that loud. I can't imagine how shy they're making George
Not that he's a shy guy but he is a shy guy.
"Bro" I hear George whine followed by fits of laughter.
"Happy birthday my love" George says and I can still hear them laughing and making comments in the background.
"Thank you" I say
George and I aren't officially dating yet, but I'm open to the idea of giving us a chance.
"I'll call you some other time, its not exactly...."
"They won't let you talk freely? I get it" I help him finish "am I still on speaker?" I ask and he replies with a no
"Victoria got me a car!" I scream and I hear him shout too
"That's amazing. You've always wanted a car" he tells me sharing my excitement with me.
It all feels too good to be true.
My life, my family, my friends, everything feels amazing and for once in my life, I couldn't wish it to be better than it is right now.
.
It's been over a year since I updated this book and I am very sorry to have left you guys hanging just like that.
Funny how I had said I'll be back in one week and somehow it became one whole year.
