Sienna grins. "Considering the headache right now, I sure did." She blinks, and I'm unsure if I'm allowed to ask more questions. We are good friends, but I don't wanna appear too curious, although I really am. Therefore, I decide to start by telling my own story.
"Well, I'm happy for you. I met this guy Eric, and he seemed pretty nice in the beginning. We danced and talked for a while, but eventually, he got a little bit too pushy. Overall, he seemed very basic, but then again, it's Mexico, so I guess it would be too much to ask for deep conversations. Not gonna happen in this party stronghold." Sienna nods and seems to hesitate for a moment. Alright, if she doesn't wanna talk about last night, I'm not gonna be the a**hole friend who keeps insisting on her to tell me her secrets.
I'm about to grab my book again to read as she clears her throat and raises her voice. "I don't want you to think I'm naive because I'm not. I know he is probably just playing his games, and I shouldn't be stupid enough to fall for him, but he seems actually nice." I stare at her and try to make sense of what I just heard. Eventually, Sienna understands that she has to give me if I should be able to follow her thoughts.
"Yesterday, at the party, I met this guy. His name is Lucas, and he was nice. We talked, he was very attentive, we talked more and we danced. Everything was perfect. Too perfect. You know, I don't believe in this whole 'love at first sight' concept. Maybe he's putting in a little extra effort to pick up a girl. And over the whole evening, he didn't give me a single time the impression to have any flaws. That's crazy, isn't it?" After she finally decided to speak, Sienna talks her head off and becomes somewhat agitated now.
"Calm down, Sienna. Everything is alright." For a moment, I think about what I'm gonna say next. "I understand your worries. You can't know about his intentions for sure. Not after a single evening. But maybe you need to give yourself a bit more time to figure out if he's really the one he's pretending to be." I pause for a moment. "Did anything happen between the two of you? You know, you don't have to talk about it if you don't feel comfortable about it. I'm just trying to help you."
"Well, he brought me back to our hotel room. I was quite drunk but making clear that I definitely wouldn't take him inside with me. But he said he just wanted to make sure that I arrived here safely. He didn't seem disappointed at all that I refused him. So, when he said goodbye, we kissed each other. And dammit, he's a good kisser."
She starts grinning, and I do too. "Well, as I said, you can't be sure about his intentions just yet, but it seems definitely worth to find out the details. Will you meet him again?" I look at her firmly, and she nods. "Yes. He arrived a couple of days ago and is returning on Friday, so I thought we shouldn't waste time getting to know each other more. So, when he asked if he would see me again today evening, I said yes." She giggles, and I have to force myself not to do something embarrassing. Good lord, neither Sienna nor I are still teenagers, but right now, we are behaving like girls talking about their first crush.
"Well, I would be happy if you two would really like each other." "Hmm, Ava, I'm not sure. Of course, that would be great, but we are going to see each other only for a few days before we part again. He's from California, but at the moment, he studies in Vancouver." "Well, I'm gonna ignore the last half of the sentence. I just heard he's from California", I joke, and Sienna rolls her eyes. We both sigh as our hangovers remind us that laughing too much is not the best for our still pounding heads, but Sienna seems relieved.
"I just ask you one thing, Ava," she says. "Please don't tell Mia or the boys about it. It's not that I don't want them to know about Lucas, but as long as I myself don't know more about him, I think it would be better if we could keep him someone that just you and I know about." I nod. I totally get that, and I'm happy that Sienna puts her trust in me, even though we have known each other for less than one year. Without wanting to sound pretentious, but I'm very good at keeping my friends' secrets. If someone tells me a story with the request to keep it private, you can be sure I won't tell anyone a single word.
Sienna lies back in her sunchair, and I can't refrain from a last joke about how the hearts of all the Italian guys will be broken when she returns to Italy and has found her love abroad. Sienna rolls her eyes but giggles. "You have a wild fantasy girl. But let's see if he's really prince charming. Somehow he's too good to be true. Let's hope he doesn't turn into a frog soon."
For the rest of the afternoon, we just focus on curing our hangovers and getting tanned. From time to time, we swim in the Caribbean sea, and because we woke up so late this morning, it doesn't take long until the sun sets and it gets cooler on the beach. Time for dinner and to get ready for the next party. During the day, everyone at the resort seemed to be working on getting ready for the party. After all the stress caused by our exams, I am enjoying these vibes. It feels nice when every once in a while, you only have to worry about picking a nice dress and shoes for a great evening.
