Chapter 3

I woke up with a slobbering shadow over my face. Shadow tends to do this when he needs to go outside. He does it every morning. I push him away lightly and get up. I grab my phone to check the time. It is around 5:30 in the morning. This is a little early for me but I have to get used to it eventually. I grab Shadows' leash and open the bedroom door quietly. I walk into the very dark hallway and scan my surroundings. Jack doesn't seem to be awake, his bedroom door is still shut. I walk quickly to the stairs and make my way down them.

Down the stairs, it leads straight into the open living room. The living room seems so massive. It has a huge sectional with a decent sized coffee table in the middle. In the center of the coffee table are a bunch of magazines, a television remote and a candle. The top of the candle has been removed leaving only the wax showing. It looks like it hasn't been lit in awhile. The television is mounted on the wall above a fireplace, which looks like it is used for decoration. I don't think Jack has ever lit the fireplace or has any intentions of doing so. Next to it is a very decorative vase. Though the vase looks like it's been there for awhile, not a speck of dust is on it.

Watching my surroundings so I do not hit anything, Shadow's tail swings and hits a side table, knocking over the glass that was on it. I quickly grab him and move him over. He is very excited early in the morning. He knows he is going outside so the wagging of his tail doesn't slow down one bit. I looked around to find the back door. Once I do, I move swiftly towards it. I unlock it and open it quietly. Shadow bolts outside before I can get his leash off of him.

While Shadow is outside, I go to the table and grab the paper towels. I make my way back to the living room where the glass lays on the floor. It was a good thing that the glass did not shatter. I pick it up and tear off a piece of the paper towel. I wiped it on the floor cleaning up the spilled water. I use another paper towel to dry the area. Once I am done, I make my way back to the kitchen and put the paper towels back in the middle of the island. I go over to the sink and put the glass in there.

I go to the back door where Shadow is sitting patiently. I open the door and let him in, grabbing his leash as he wiggles his way in. I decided to pick him up instead. Now Shadow is still a puppy, so he is not too big for me to pick him up. Eventually he will be but for now, I will pick him up whenever I get the chance. It's also a safe way to ensure he will not knock anything over again. I walk back up to the guest room with him. When we entered, I shut the door behind me and let him down, taking off the leash.

I check the time again. It's almost six. I decided it's time for me to get ready for work. I do not have to be at the office until 7:30 but I do have to drop Shadow off at the apartment. So leaving a little early is the best choice. I grab my bag and start going through it. I look for my makeup bag. I did not grab it. It was the last thing I even thought about grabbing since I did my makeup at the apartment. I sigh, shutting my bag after I grab my straightener. At least I can do my hair.

I open my door and go straight to the bathroom. I plug in my straightener putting the heat to 350. I do not want it to be too hot to where I am burning off my hair. Although that has never stopped me before. I comb my fingers through my hair before I start straightening it. I always brush my hair after I straighten it. My hair has never really been super ratty in the morning. Which is great, I can do a quick comb through and get straight to it. As I get to the back of my head, I hear a knock on the door. Jack must be up.

I go to the door and unlock it before returning to the front of one sink. "Come in." I say.

Jack swings open the door rubbing his eyes. "Why are you up so early?" He says as he makes his way to the other sink.
