Chapter 8

I wake up with Shadow hovering over me. My head is pounding. I turn over after giving Shadow kisses, I grab my water and take a big drink. I grab the Advil I left on the nightstand and take it. Hopefully, it will make my headache go away. Probably not but I can hope.

I get up out of bed and go grab Shadows leash. It is about 5:30 in the morning. I clip his leash onto his collar and go out to the living room. Jack is still asleep so I try to be quiet. I unlock the door and open it, Shadow bolts out. He nearly drags me and I try to close the door quietly. I tug him back gently and he looks at me, then slowly walks. He is a good boy and knows certain gestures.

When I tug him back, that means to walk slowly. He knows better than to drag me. He's learned over the months I've had him but he just gets so excited to go outside. He acts like he's never been outside before. It is so cute though, so I can't be mad at him for that.

We go back inside and into the elevator. I pick our floor and we go up. We get back to the apartment and I open the door. I see Jack shirtless in my kitchen. He is gulping down a bottle of water.

I chuckle and look at him. "Aren't you glad I put out for you last night?"

He nods and goes to sit on the couch. He starts checking his phone and then answers a call. He walks into my office to talk, shutting the door behind him.

I go back to my room and grab my phone. I see two text messages from Jess. I am so glad he texted me. I honestly did not think he would text me back at all. I felt like he would just see my text and then forget all about me.

Jess: Hey there!

Jess: Good morning! How was your night if you remember it lol

I smile at his texts. Of course I remember the night. I wish I could forget about what happened after but other than that. I hope Jack doesn't make it awkward. Maybe he forgot about it? He probably did not but I can hope.

I looked down at my phone and decided to send him a text back.

To Jess: Good morning! I do remember the night, thankfully... Do you?

Jack comes out of the office and looks at me. He grabs his overnight bag and heads to the guest bathroom. I am assuming he is getting ready to head out. That is my que to get ready. Especially if I want to stop and get coffee on the way.

I go to my bathroom and look at myself. I really do not look that bad. So I am not going to wear any makeup today. Also because that takes too much effort. I grab my brush, brushing my hair and throwing it up in a bun. I pull some small strands out to frame my face. I then grab my face wash and wash my face.

When I am done I go back into my room and head to the closet. I open it and grab a nice white blouse. I pair it with a tan skirt. I throw my clothes on and start looking for shoes. I grab a pair of white converse and put them on. I head over to the mirror to see how I look. Not bad, definitely professional but also casual. I grab a necklace to pair. It just has the first letter of my name.

I grab my phone, keys and purse and head out to the living room. I go to the kitchen, setting my stuff down and grabbing a water bottle. I set it down on the counter then go to the fridge, grabbing the brita and filling the water bottle. I hear Jack clear his throat behind me. I turn around and look at him, setting the brita down, twisting the lid back on.

"Are you ready to go?" He asks me, looking at his keys.

"Yes." I look at them too and realize he drove here. My car is at the office so at least I will be able to drive it today.
