Chapter 4

It is about 2 in the afternoon. We have been so busy. Well I should say I have been so busy teaching this intern common sense. She barely knew how to type. She doesn't know how to run a printer, let alone make a copy. I have been spending the day playing teacher instead of actually working. Thankfully, she is here until 3. So I only have 1 more hour of playing teacher before I have to catch up.

Jack walks in on the phone. One hand is in his pocket and the other is holding his phone on speaker. He looks frustrated. "Alright, well we will be there tonight." He hangs up and looks over at us.

"Chloe, you can go now. Thanks for the help today." He says and opens the door for her. She walks past him and winks. He smirks and walks back to his desk.

He plops down in his chair. "So what was that call about?" I ask looking back at him.

"We have a huge conference dinner to go to tonight. Well I would not even call it a dinner. We don't even have dinner. It's mostly a party. A formal party that is. So wear your best dress." He says typing at his computer.

"Why do I have to go?" I close my laptop pushing myself from the desk.

"You're my assistant. Plus, I need a plus one and I already said you would go." He says as he stops typing.

"I don't even think I have a super classy dress. Most of my dresses are from back in high school. They are definitely not appropriate for this." I look at him. "If I leave right now I guess I could whip something up."

"No. I will buy you a dress." He gets up and grabs his stuff. "Let's go."

I look at him in disbelief. "What do you mean let's go? I have a ton of work to catch up on."

"You have a ton of work to catch up on? What did you do all day?" He shakes his head while looking at me.

"I played teacher all day. The intern sucks. Do not even get me started on her." I get up and grab my purse. "But yes Jack, let's go. You cannot be mad at me for not getting things done though."

"I want to hear your thoughts on the intern. It will help me know what I need to look for when looking in the future." He opens the door as I walk through it. He follows me to the elevator.

"Well, she sucks. She doesn't even know how to make a copy. Multiple times I had to go with her and show her. I would send her to make a copy while I tried to edit pictures and she would come back with no copies. She said she didn't realize we had such a complicated machine." I look at Jack while talking with my hands. "It is so frustrating. How are you 23 and lie on your resume?"

"Well not everyone knows how to work office machines. It's quite hard but I understand. Also, what do you mean she lied on her resume?" He asks pressing buttons.

" I don't remember exactly what it says but I know it's a lie. I will look tomorrow for exactly what is a lie. I know she can't type like she says. She chicken pecks. Like come on Jack." I cross my arms. "Also she spent hours, I literally mean hours, just talking about you. How you're so charming, so hot, and how she wishes she had you. Blah Blah Blah."

He looks at me and smirks. "Well I don't think that bothered you so much. I mean, look at me. You were probably thinking the same thing."

I hit his arm. "You are so annoying." I smile and turn away.

He turns my face to look at him. He stares into my eyes and takes his hand, brushing my hair out of my face as he lifts my chin up. His thumb feels my lower lip, pulling it down a little. We just stared at each other for what seemed like hours. The elevator doors finally opened and he turned away, taking his hand away from my face.
