Author Notes: This is my first fanfiction I've written on here, although I've read fanfiction for years so I'm more in tune to the old terms. I also am used to Fanfiction.net more so I have no idea how to post on here well, but I can assure you the story will be good so let's all come along for this new adventure with myself, OC (Wren Buckley) and our beloved Eddie Munson.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Wren and Robin Buckley, if you don't get your asses in this car in 5 minutes, I swear I'm leaving you both behind!" Steve Harrington yelled from the driveway at Wren and her cousin Robin, who she'd been living with since the beginning of that summer.
"Well, we can't all be Steve "The Hair" Harrington and woo everyone in school just by being there, can we? Some of us actually need to put in a bit of effort sometimes." She retorts as she and Robin both pick up their backpacks and head out to the BMW in the driveway.
Even though Wren had only known Steve Harrington for about two months from when she moved to Hawkins, she knew that he was a really good friend to have for both she and Robin. She had moved there when she begged her dad to live with his sister, Robin's mom, rather than hanging around Kentucky where her dad had remarried after her mom passed of cancer. Since the time she had gotten to Hawkins, she gotten to know her cousin a bit more, rather than just through the letters they had sent each other before the move. along with this, at some point when they were all working together at Family Video, she had also gotten to know the rest of Robin's friends, like Dustin, Mike, and the Byers, although the Byers had shortly moved to California after she had gotten there.
"So, Steve, what's new with you and the chicks this week?" Robin asked as she slid into the passenger seat and threw her backpack to Wren in the back.
"Thanks for asking Robin," Steve sarcastically responds, "I do have an issue in the old love life though. You see Linda has been getting a bit distant lately ever since that new guy at Domino's started working next to the workplace (referring to Family Video), and then there's Heidi. The problem with Heidi is that she's going to an out of state college, so it's like do I really want to start a relationship that has no point other than sex? I don't know does that make since to you?" He asks looking at both Robin and Wren for support.
"Is anyone in here even listening?" No response. Steve huffs as he looks at Robin putting on a layer of mascara and Wren who is nose deep into "Christine" by Stephen King.
"Yes" Robin replies hastily as she screws back on the makeup cap. "Then what did I say, what'd I say?" Steve says eyeing Robin. "Something about having sex with Linda!" Robin exclaims as they get closer to the school.
"No, I'm talking about Heidi!" he says shaking his head, wondering why he even puts up with the two bird brains sometimes.
"She can't help it Steve, your love life is like one of the seven wonders of the world, plus it's the first day and I don't know anyone, plus Robin needs to work up the courage to even talk to Vickie." Wren says, finally looking up from the chapter she was reading. Robin starts nodding in agreement as she takes another look in the mirror before flipping it back up.
"Come on Robin, we've talked about this already, you've got to stop pretending to be someone else when you're around her, you know? You've just got to be yourself" he explains as they get caught behind another car.
"You are literally quoting me, to me." Robin says rolling her eyes. "Well he, or you in this case, aren't wrong you know? You need to use your own advice on this one smarty pants, I mean it worked for Steve, now look at him, he's back in business." Wren says putting all her stuff back in her bag.
"I don't want to hear it from you Ms. Queen of failed relationships." Robin shoots back defensively.
Wren sheepishly looks out the window, claiming "I can't help it if Darren was an asshole and Mathew was a two-timing mess, you know infatuation is blinding my friends." The other two rolled their eyes and looked at each other in unison thinking about how she complained about her old boyfriend from Kentucky and a new guy she had only had one date with from the Starcourt mall, which Steve had warned was a bad idea to begin with.
"Whatever, the point is Robin," Steve smirked, not letting Robin get out of this one, "is that you need to get out there too."
"You don't get it Steve, you ask out a girl and the worst you get is no, I ask out the wrong girl I get labelled social pariah." Robin says defeatedly.
"I get that but trust me I don't think Vickie seems like the wrong girl." Steve mumbles as they finally are able to snag a parking spot in the back. "Besides you saw where she had her last movie paused, that's a sign"
"No, it isn't, anyone can pause a movie anywhere." Robin scoffs thinking about how the tape had been on a topless scene when they went to rewind it.
"Yes, it is, it means she likes boobies, think about it!" Steve grins looking over at Robin and back at Wren who shrugs a bit.
"Ew, don't use the term boobies Steve what are you two?" Robin jokes as she gets out of the car.
"It's not a bad word, I love boobies, you love boobies, Wren sometimes does, and Vickie does too." Steve says quiet enough for them to both hear as he gets his backpack from the vehicle and they all head inside the school.
Once they get inside Robin and Steve point to where her class is and they all head to their first classes, which sadly Wren doesn't have with either of the two.
Wren rushes inside the class right as the bell is about to ring and looks around for an empty seat as half the eyes in the class get drawn to her. She sees two seats in the very front that are empty, although a jock is using one as his footrest, along with a lone seat in the back row. Considering she's the new girl and doesn't want to be stared at any more than she already is, she decides to sit in the back, as she shuffles over to her new home for the semester.
The teacher waits another minute past the bell for any stragglers to come in at the last minute, then finally gets up and puts her name of the board.
"I'm Mrs. Jenkins, and welcome to English Literature 101. I'm sure you all know the drill by now on how homework is expected on time and that goofing around, and snacking is prohibited, considering you're all seniors, so I'll skip the introduction phase and start with passing out your first reading assignment." The teacher says, explaining how she'll start with the first row, by getting their name, assigning them the seat they are sitting in, and giving them a book with Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in it. Once the teacher had gotten Wren's name down, who was it the last seat called, she looked around her desk for a book and furrowed her brow.
"Well Ms. Buckley it looks like you'll have to borrow from your neighbor for now, it appears I didn't grab enough books from the storage room, but tomorrow I should have you a copy too." Mrs. Jenkins said, sitting back down in her chair to open the to the first chapter.
Wren looks at the guy sitting beside her, which she hadn't really looked at until now since she had been in a rush to sit down. He was a guy with a Van Halen type hairdo and a jean vest on. He seemed to be a few inches taller than her 5'5" stature and had deep brown eyes. He didn't seem to be paying attention, as he was focused on doodling a devil looking creature in his notebook. She almost didn't want to disturb him since he seemed pretty focused, plus it was a cool looking picture, but she decided she didn't want to fall behind in school this early, thus she decides to speak up.
"Hey." The guy doesn't look up, so she tries again "Hey rocker dude, do you mind if I look out of your book? She said she didn't have enough books for today." Wren says, finally getting the guy's attention as he looks over and cocks his head a little, staring at her.
"The name's Eddie, although rocker dude is a lot better than what most people around here say," he whispers back, "and be my guest, I'm not using it so it's all yours." Eddie says passing over his copy of Shakespeare to a surprised Wren. Even though she wasn't much for eye contact or talking to people she narrowed her eyes a little at him.
