Chapter 15: Brother?

Nobody's pov: Everest was stunned and astonished. She didn't know what to say. "I have a brother?" Is the only thought that can come through her head.

Everest: I'm sorry. But could you repeat that? I didn't really quite hear you.
Rushmore: Everest... I'm your brother. Don't you remember me?

Everest wasn't sure what to think. She had remembered she had parents and a sister. But she never knew she had a brother.

Rushmore: Oh, I see. You really don't remember me. I guess that makes sense since. But Everest I know you may not believe me. But I am your brother. Please you have to trust me.
Everest: Oh, okay I see that's rich. How can I just believe that I have a brother when me and Gasket were given to a family that we don't have any connections to?!
And how and I suppose to allow a random person into my life?!
Rushmore: Eve. Please....
Everest: Don't Eve me! I can't even trust my own parents after they traded me and Gasket to a different family!!
Rushmore: BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE OKAY!!

Everest stopped in her tracks when she saw the calm and collected male husky loses his cool and saw that his eyes were developing tears.

Everest: What?

That was the only word that Everest could mustered. She didn't understand what the male husky meant when he said they didn't have a choice.

Rushmore: Our parents. Didn't have a choice okay? Everest our parents loved us. More than anything in the world. Our parents were sick and were in terrible condition after you and Gasket was born. Dad couldn't get enough money to afford the proper treatment. I had tried to help dad to get the money but we didn't get enough. That's when they had to make the most difficult choice. They had to give us up to another family a healthy one. I was first. Then when you two were old enough to be given to another family. And after that they both died. To dad he died in a very bad accident. And to mom she died to her sickness.
Everest: I didn't know Rushmore. I-
Rushmore: Don't. It's clear to me that I'm not your brother. I guess I made a mistake on trying to find you.
Sage: Babe are doing to be alright?
Rushmore: Yeah I'm going to be alright. How about we get back on that pool date?
Sage: Sure. If it makes you feel better.
Rushmore: Of course it will make me feel better when I'm around you.

Everest watch as her brother and his girlfriend left the house. Everest was filled with guilt she wanted to tell him to wait, but she couldn't get the courage to say anything or even think of any way to say sorry.

Marshall: Hey, Eve. Are you okay?
Everest: Marshy. I'm not okay. I really screwed up. I just thought that my parents really hated me... But I.... I....
Marshall: Eve...
Everest: Marshy... I need to make it up to him.....
Marshall: It's probably for the best. I just hope he doesn't hate you now

Everest said before leaving the house to look for her brother. She looked every neighborhood until it reached to night she was about give up until she remembered what Rushmore said "pool date." Everest decided to go look for the pool. Everest then found the pool that Rushmore and Sage are at. Everest began to grow hesitant due to her seeing how her brother was having a great time with his girlfriend. That smile and can do attitude made her smile a bit which she felt that her brother's smile was intoxicating. She hated to ruin the moment but she had to begin to walk carefully and try not to make a scene but failed because Rushmore noticed her.

Rushmore: Hello Mrs winters.

Rushmore said with a cold and bitter expression. His ice crystal blue eyes reflected on how he was expressing. It was anger, sadness, confusion. This gave Everest the feeling that Rushmore wasn't happy to see her and she hated that feeling even if it was from family.

Everest: Hey, um Rushmore.... I just wanted to talk to you.
Rushmore: Talk about what? The fact that you made it clear that I'm not your brother? Or the fact that you have believed that our parents hated us? Or is it that our love for you was not existent?
Everest: Rushmore..... I know what I said hurted you. But please hear me out....
Rushmore: Alright... I'll hear you out.

Everest was silent for the moment trying to formulate anything she said that could potentially be a form of a apology. And then she spoke:

Everest: Rushmore. What I said.... I didn't know anything or anyone that was apart of my past. I..... I......

Rushmore perked his head beginning to interesting about the female husky was saying. He could tell that something could have happened to her. But couldn't help but speak:

Rushmore: What?
Everest: I HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO A FAMILY THAT DIDN'T EVEN NOTICED THAT I BLATANTLY BEING ABUSED AND THREATENED!! WHEN HE DID CAME BACK I NEARLY LOST SOMEONE I LOVED! AND I DON'T WANT TO LOSE ANYONE ELSE!! I'M SORRY OKAY?! I WAS STUPID TO BELIEVE THAT MY PARENTS COULD HAVE HATED ME!!!

Everest stopped at the moment realizing that she confessed most of her trauma and she saw her brother's shocked expression. She didn't wanted her brother to be a part of her issues and began to walk away and head back to Marshall but was stopped by a hug. She turned her head and saw that the male husky's face was filled with tears in his eyes. He let go of her and wiped his eyes.

Rushmore: Everest...... I didn't know what had happened to you..... What you've been through. What you're saying is true than maybe there's more going on. Look Everest... I'm willing to give you a second chance but-

Rushmore was cut off with a hug from Everest and noticed that she had tears in her eyes. They weren't tears from sadness, they were from joy. Rushmore couldn't help but smile.

Everest: ThankyouThankyouThankyou!
Rushmore: Okay, okay, okay... Your very much welcome. You probably should head back to the house. I promise sage that we can go have our alone time.
Everest: Okay, see you then?
Rushmore: See you then.

Everest began to head back to the fire house leaving the Rushmore and Sage alone together. Everest took one last look back and began to smile and wave which Rushmore and Sage return. Everest turned back and continue to proceed her trip back to the fire house with the stars glowing bright in the night sky
