Nothing. Nothing happened. We sat in silence staring at each other with saucer sized eyes.
The door banged open and four huge men charged in. They spoke in hushed voices careful to keep me from hearing. Looking to James for help I willed him to look at me but his eyes were glued to the floor.
Two of the smaller men dragged my flailing body off the bed by my arms. "Tell us of your power." He had one of those flat voices that had no emotion, the ones that just made you want to claw your eyes out. I kept my silence as he bought his knee up in one swift motion successfully knocking the air out of my tiny body. Gasping for air I spat on two of their shoes.
That seemed to be the last straw, two left the room immediately as one held me down and the one with the flat voice started delivering blows to my body. Bending my arm at an awkward angle I pulled the knife out. Watching James tackle one I drove my dagger into the man about me.
All I could hear was screaming. It wasn't his, it was mine. His glossy eyes stared at the ceiling blood pooling around him. Suddenly the whole room was spinning. Trying to snap out of it I tried to stand but immediately thumped to the ground.
------------------------I tried to open my eyes but my left eye was swollen shut. Croaking out in pain I seen James face above me.
Flopping my head to the side I seen my house and put it together. He was carrying me home even though he could get killed. Wheezing out a breathe of relief I tucked my head back into his warm chest.
"She's back!" An unfamiliar voice shouted in the distance. Slowly turning my head through the dizziness he slowly started putting me down. "I'm right here if you can't stand." James voice showed how uncomfortable he really was as he released me.
And I stood. For about five seconds before dropping down to my knees. Heavy coughs racked through my body leaving me gasping for air. Looking at the grass I seen the blood I coughed up. Violently my head I tried to prevent it but before I could stop it I started throwing up more blood.
Feeling a big hand pull back my hair and rub my back I sighed. The tingles gave it away, whispering "Grayson." I knew it was him without turning around.
"Shh, shh. Don't talk, Bethly. I'm right here. It's alright." Closing my eyes I focused on his words and his hand that was delivering tingles.
Resting my head on his thigh he shifted. Dropping to his butt he stretched out his legs with me between them he stroked my hair while I stared into his beautiful eyes.
"Don't hurt James." I wheezed out placing my bloody hand on his cheek. "And please don't leave me Grayson." Trailing off I had to fight to keep my eyes open, let alone talk. Cupping my cheek he stared down at me with so many emotions it knocked the wind out of me.
"Go to sleep Bee. I'll be right here when you wake." Those delicious tingles were the last thing I felt before lulling off.
Screaming my eyes shot open. The men that hurt me. The man I killed wasn't in my cozy purple room. Just my mother who had been in the rocking chair but was now charging at me like a bull after red.
"Where is he?" I croaked out, my voice raw.
"Grayson? he was supposed to leave after your, well birthday." Gripping the bed sheets I prepared for the worst. "But the sweetheart stayed. For you! Well obviously that isn't how he put it but it was quite obvious. You were crying and yelling the whole time. But he stayed right there in the rocking chair, all week. Well until this morning. He refused to eat and he would only shower in your bathroom." blushing at the thought of Grayson naked in my shower I cleared my throat. "Well I'm going to go find him, me and your father will be up later."
