Book Two
Port Royal
It was supposed to be a perfect day. The flower arrangements were exquisite, the musicians top notch, the wedding breakfast a gourmet treat and the cake a lemon sponge that was divine. Elizabeth's dress was truly beautiful, a deep gold silk brocade, it suited Lizzy perfectly and the antique veil that matched the trim on the gown was magical.
But Elizabeth Swann and her younger sister Charlotte sat in the pouring rain before the alter where Lizzie and Will should be getting married. They had received word just as the ceremony should be starting that Will had been arrested. As if the sky were weeping for the couples ruined day the heavens had opened up and a down pour the likes of which only the Caribbean could deliver had rained down.
Charlotte looks over her shoulder and sees Will being escorted in manacles by Royal Marines! She motions to her sister who drops her bouquet and runs towards her intended.
"Will...!" Elizabeth runs to him and Charlotte chases afterwards. Under the protection of a portico the rain finally is not beating down on them and Lizzy embraces Will as much as his restraints will allow. "Why is this happening?"
"I don't know. You look beautiful." Will smiles at Lizzy and she giggles back.
"I think it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding."
Governor Weatherby Swann comes down the walkway and Charlotte steps towards her father to see what he had discovered.
"Make way, let me through." However, two marines cross their bayonets to bar the Governor from entering. "How dare you!" He gasps. "Stand you're men down at once!" He yells at the gentleman in charge.
Said gentleman is wearing a caped greatcoat and tricorn hat over a powdered wig and is facing away from the Governor, surveying the beach below as. He turns and hands off his cape to another man, "Governor Weatherby Swann, it's been too long."
"Cutler Beckett?" Governor Swann exclaimed with distaste. In point of fact, the amount of disdain her father displayed surprised Charlotte. Father was typically a wonderful politician and could tolerate almost anyone.
"It's Lord now... actually." The newcomer replies and Charlotte is reminded of a peacock parading about.
"Lord or not." Governor Swann responds. "You have no reason and no authority to arrest this man."
Lord Beckett smirks at the Governor. "In fact, I do. Mister Mercer!" A tall ghoulish looking man who is apparently Lord Beckett's secretary steps up and presents several important looking documents. "The warrant for the arrest of one William Turner."
"This warrant is for Elizabeth Swann." Governor Swann exclaims!
"Oh, is it? That's annoying. My mistake. Arrest her." Beckett starts to flip through the sheaf of papers even as Elizbeth is manacled next to Will.
"On what charges?" Elizabeth demands.
Lord Beckett exclaims, "Ah-ha! Here's the one for William Turner. And I have another one for Miss Charlotte Swann!" Beckett steps up to Charlotte and glances down at her, his eyes taking in her drenched appearance and lingering far to long on her figure. In particular he seems to pay attention to the black pearl pendant that hangs around he neck, the one she never takes off. "I believe, that would be you?" He motions to the troops surrounding them and Charlotte is also placed in restraints.
"And I have another one for a Mister James Norrington. Is he present?" Beckett waves the warrant around even as he never takes his gaze of Charlotte.
Charlotte raises her chin and glares back at him. "On what charges?" She coolly demands.
