Three months had passed since then. Steve, Claire, and the girls settled into their duplex finally in the swing of being a family of four. Dustin had actually volunteered to babysit tonight so the couple could go on a date. Tonight was their one year anniversary.
Dustin was over the moon being able to babysit. He had created an entire coordinated schedule for the babies. It was definitely a little much but it warmed Claire's heart to see how much he cared for their girls.
Leaving Dustin in the duplex with one final goodbye, Steve escorted Claire to his, now their, car. He opened the door for her kissing her cheek. He closed the door for her, patting the ring box in his pocket with a deep breath.
Steve drove them up above the quarry. It was sunset. The sun streaked over the water creating an oasis. Claire stood there in awe as Steve laid out a blanket for their picnic. Claire smiled at the boy and took his hand as he helped her sit down.
The pair sat in peaceful silence as they watched the sunset. Steve took a deep breath, turning toward the blonde. "Claire?" He asked getting her attention. She hummed at him softly. "I just.. I wanted to tell you how much I loved you. You saved me Claire. You helped me become a man. You're an amazing mother, you amaze me every day" he whispered leaning toward her. She smiled at him tearily. "And I know" he started, taking the ring box out of his pocket. He opened it revealing a rose gold ring with a octagonal shaped stone. The stone was a mixture of pearl and emerald making the ring look forest-like. "That you will be the best wife I could ever ask for. Will you do me the honor of becoming Mrs. Claire Harrington?"
Claire grabbed both sides of his face, pulling him into a deep kiss, tears streaming down her face. She pulled away as he took her hand in his, slipping the ring on her finger. "Of course I will" she beamed.
Steve smiled at her tearfully, kissing her head as she leant against him. The pair watched the sun finally set as fireflies lit up the sky.
Who would've thought a one night stand could change a person's life this much?
