After visiting his Great-Aunt May's grave, Ben headed home with renewed determination. Ben always felt better after talking to his grandmother and this time was no different.
Ben continued to walk when he noticed a rumbling in his stomach.
He looked at an open restaurant and decided to go in for something to eat. The name of the restaurant was "Kirby's".
Ben then decided to go inside for a bite to eat and was surprised to find a familiar face at the checkout counter.
?: Oh, Ben!
Ben: Oh, Stanley! What are you doing here?" Ben had met Stan Lee or Stanley as he was called by all the students at Midtown High. Stan was the school janitor.
Stan Lee: Well, I couldn't support my apartment on just a janitor's salary so I decided to work here.
Ben: Really? And I thought you would move on with a writing career.
Stan Lee: Oh, I still haven't given up. I had an idea that I proposed to my editor but he said it was ridiculous
Ben: Don't say that kind of thing, Stanley. I bet it must be great. If your publisher doesn't think it's good then try selling it to another publisher and then your stupid publisher will break down and realize he was wrong. Who knows what might happen. Maybe you create the most famous character in the world.
Stan Lee: Hehe. You are a true believer from what I see! Tell me what do you want?
Ben: French fries with cheese.
Stan Lee: Chris! Prepare cheese and potatoes for my friend here.- Stan spoke to the other cook.
Ben looked at him and immediately recognized him.
Ben: Mr Claremont?
Chris: Oh, Mr. Pryde. How are you?" The other cook asked sympathetically.
Ben: I'm fine, I just didn't expect to see my old teacher as a cook in a restaurant.
Stan Lee: Oh, you two already know each other?
Ben: Yes, Mr. Claremont taught me literature when I was in ninth grade, that is, last year.
Chris Claremont: Yes, Mr. Pryde was my best student and without a doubt the most dedicated.
Ben: I really liked his classes, by the way, I remember you dropping out of school for a gap year but I figured you were going to travel somewhere interesting.
Chris Claremont: I decided to try something new. I always liked to cook. The folks here in Queens are friendly, not to mention it's nice to have an old friend of mine like Stan around.
?: Hey you! Enough of the small talk!
Stan Lee: Sorry, Steve. Hey, this is Ben, an alumnus of Midtown High. Ben, this is Steve Ditko, the restaurant manager.
Ben: Nice to meet you. Wait... if you're the manager, then who's Kirby? You know the sign outside?
Steve Ditko: Well, he was our professor in college.
Ben: Your teacher?
Stan Lee: Yes, the three of us. We were all confused and undecided at the time but... Professor Jack Kirby taught us how we went through our challenges and found our goals. Some we still fight for.
Ben: Don't worry. I'm sure they will. I've had an example from countless people my entire life. When you have someone to be inspired by, you will always go to the end to reach that person and when you do, you will know that it will all be worth it.
