Chapter 3

Having made it home after spending lunch with Johan you smile slightly. You had been worried about him being odd but you are sure he was just bad at expressing his feelings. Overall he was pleasant company.

Putting your bag down you grab a carry bag and put it into your coat pocket. You had thought of going to the store straight after but your home was on the way so it made sense to make the stop. Opening your door, you lock it and open the second door before leaving the house.

After finishing collecting your groceries, you put your carry bag over your shoulder and walk back home. The wind blew even more harshly as you covered your face slightly. Looking ahead again you see someone crouching on the sidewalk. Walking past them you glance to see a kitten in a box as you let out a small aww. Before you could turn back to look ahead you feel the person looking at you.

"Johan?"

"This is embarrassing," he stands up cleaning his clothes a little, "my place doesn't allow any animals, therefore I had to look after Kuro here."

"He looks to be taken care of, do the neighbors here look after him?"

"No," he looks at you as he smiles, "just me." He picks up the kitten in his hands as it purrs, "black cats are believed to bring bad luck, many believe in this and so stay away from him."

Extending your hand you pet him, "Kuro is really beautiful, I can't imagine people hating him."

"Beautiful indeed." He sighs shortly after that. "I'm worried for him, however."

"Why?"

"The winter will be cold, and I live far from here. The shelters are poorly funded so I'm thinking of giving him up for adoption."

"Hmm, I could look after him?"

He looks at you shocked, "are you sure? I wouldn't want to put so much pressure on you?"

Lifting Kuro from Johan's arms you hold him close to you as he snuggles his face to yours. "It would be my pleasure!"

Smiling at you he sighs in relief, "thank God." Pointing to the box he states how he had brought him some things and if you needed help bringing them to your place. You nod at the suggestion considering everything was new and heavy.

Grabbing a small bag from your carry bag, you put some of the things as Johan picks up the food and bed in the box. "You had paid quite a bit for his things, and they seem to be new. How long have you known Kuro for?"

"Just over a week. I wasn't able to mention this earlier but it's a coincidence we meet again after parting ways."

"Haha, it really is I was thinking about you earlier." Your eyes opened wider as you noticed what you said and you quickly shut your mouth.

"That's fine don't worry, I was thinking about you too." He smiled down at you as he picked up the bag. Putting Kuro inside your coat you zip it up and hold him close to your chest as your cheeks were still red slightly.

You walk ahead with Johan by your side, not noticing when he made turns to your house without you mentioning anything.

After setting up the things for the kitten, you lay the bed on the floor tapping it for him to go on it. Kuro looks at you as he yawns and rolls back into a ball in the middle of your bed. You sigh as you hear Johan chuckle.

"Hmm, you should maybe go now, it's already dark."

He nods, "Thank you for worrying about me, also for looking after Kuro."

"Don't worry! I've already grown attached to him. Tomorrow I'll go to the vet to make sure he's okay and get a few things for safety measures."

"Don't worry, I have already taken him to the vets." He takes out the paperwork from his jacket as he hands it to you.

"Wait, how come you already went to the vet?"

"He fell ill a few days after meeting him, the vets suggested for him to get a few things."

"Hmm, I see." You place the papers on your bedside wardrobe.

"I'll be making my way home, thank you again, it was a pleasure seeing you again today." He smiled.

You open the door for him as you say you had fun. Opening the second door you wave to him as he turns back and waves as well, making his way down the road. Closing the door you open your door as you see Kuro had gotten up from the bed and was walking to the bowl. As he started licking the milk you gently stroked him as you smile. What a cute kitty, how could anyone not want to help him out.

On another thought, it seemed weird how Johan had taken such measures, but you just thought you were overthinking it. Taking a picture of Kuro you send it to Johan.

Shortly after you felt tired and fell asleep, as Kuro lay beside you cuddled up.

Johan checks his phone as he walks inside his home. Looking at the picture he sees Kuro and a goodnight message from you. Looking at the time he smiles, you went earlier than usual, Kuro must be helpful when it comes to your sleeping problems. Texting you goodnight he puts away his phone and sits down, thinking to himself.
