The Girl

The last time I broke up with Lucas was a month ago, March. And we still haven't gotten back together. Usually we'd be back by now, but I have a bit of a problem on my hands. There's this one girl I just can't get out of my head. I don't know why and I can't seem to figure it out.

"Max! It's not raining anymore! Do you want to go outside?"
I look away from the game we were playing to see El standing at the window, her face pressed against it.
"Sure!" I say, standing up, "If you're still up for that skate board lesson that is?"
"Yeah," she turns her head to face me, "Don't let me fall, okay."
Her looking right at me makes me have to catch my breath, but I answer right away, "Of course," I say with a smile.
We head outside and up towards the street by my house, skate board in hand. As we're walking, we catch sight of the boys riding on their bikes. Well, most of them, Dustin isn't there. They see us and make a quick stop on the street corner. Ever since I broke up with Lucas, and Mike and El broke it off, it's been kind of awkward between us. Will waves a hi at us, and we wave back. He's never been much of an issue with us.
"What are you guys doing out here?" Mike asks, as he and the others dismount their bikes.
"What, are you trying to stalk us or something?" I ask. El chuckles at my question.
"Hey, hey, hey, we were just wondering!" he snaps back.
"They're probably just hanging out, dude," Will suggests
"Exactly, we're just hanging," El says, putting an arm on my shoulder. I jump a little at the touch.
"Fineeee...." Mike sighs, rolling his eyes.
"If you really need to know though, I'm teaching El how to skate board," I say, displaying my board.
"Have fun!" Will smiles.
El and I smile and wave as we walk away.
"Don't get hurt!" Mike yells.

We reach the street and I can tell El is getting a little nervous.
"You okay?" I ask, placing my hand on her shoulder.
"I'm....fine, just a little scared I'll get hurt."
"I have an idea, wait here." I hand her my skate board and head to my house. Opening the garage, I search through an old box of outdoor toys. I grab my old pink, sparkly, helmet, that my dad bought for me. Still never worn.
As I run back up to El, I see Lily standing by her. I hate Lily, she sits next to me in 3 of my classes, and is one of the worst people I've ever met.
"Oh, look who it is," she says, noticing me.
"What do you want?" I stand in front of El, handing her the helmet in her free hand.
"Nothing, just saying hi." she smiles, "I did notice you've finally decided to ditch those boys, though. Is this your girlfriend?" she points at El.
"She's my friend, can you leave us alone now?" I push her arm down.
"Did you just touch me? Stupid bitch!" She slaps my face, making me stumble on my feet.
My face stings and I almost fall over. I hear the sound of a helmet and skate board hitting the ground.
"Don't touch her," El says, raising her arm.
"What are you gonna do?" she scoffs.
"Go away." El tilts her head down, preparing herself.
"Or what, are you like her? A stupid fa-" she's cut off as El launches her into a bush across the street. She wipes the blood from her nose. Lily struggles to stand up, her face filled with shock and anger. "Freak!" she yells before she walks away.
"Are you okay?" El asks as she turns to face me, a look of concern on her face.
"Yeah, yeah, thanks," I respond, still a little shaken from the encounter.
"Can you teach me now?" she picks the skate board back up and holds it out.

I might have figured out why I can't get this girl out of my head now. She just risked her reputation in Hawkins to defend me, and she looked so pretty doing it. She's sweet, protective, and an amazing person.

"Of course," I reply. A small smile grows on her face.

I think I might like this girl.
