Nico di Angelo sat on a cliff, feet dangling over the endless cavern of blue water below. He was thinking about something he realized about himself today, something he had suspected for a while but a blond haired, blue eyed son of Apollo made him confirm it.
Nico di Angelo is gay and he doesn't know how to accept this fact about himself. He stared into the watery depths below, thinking what Bianca would say if she was here, if she knew.
He didn't want to talk to anyone about it. He felt ashamed that he is a boy and he likes another boy.
A tear slipped from his eye as he thought about Will Solace and his beautiful blond tresses flowing in the wind as he nocked another arrow and aimed towards the target. How he looked so insanely beautiful doing something about 20 other people were doing as well but none of them as well as him.
"Hey," a quiet voice said from behind him.
Y/N L/N came to sit next to Nico, putting her feet over the edge and folding her hands in her lap.
"Hi," Nico replied equally quietly. Y/N was the one person Nico felt he didn't need to hide from because she would never judge him.
Y/N looked at Nico from her peripheral vision. He was lost deep in thought, staring at the water. She noticed the tear on his cheek and knew Nico had realized the truth she had known for a while. She had been there when he looked at Will like a little boy in love and she felt so happy for her best friend.
She hadn't realized in the moment how Nico felt when he discovered his sexuality. Now, seeing him cry over this made her heart break into two.She put an arm around his shoulders and he leaned into her, putting his head on her shoulder and exhaled a deep breath. Her hand went to his hair, stroking his head comfortingly and running her fingers through his dark tresses.
"You know Nico it's completely normal," Y/N said suddenly in a low voice, trying not to disrupt the peace.
"What?" Nico looked at her confused.
"Being gay, liking boys. It's completely normal."
"How did you-"
"Because I know you, Nico. I've known you since we were 12." She chuckled at his shocked expression.
"Did you know? Before today I mean," Nico asked.
Y/N simply nodded in response.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"It's not something you can just tell a person, Nico. It's something you had to realize on your own. Besides, would you have believed me if I came up to you one day and said 'you're gay'?"
Nico chuckled a little and shook his head. "Probably not."
A comfortable silence fell over the two as they stared out over the waters, embracing each other's company.
"Y/N I'm scared," Nico whispered. She turned her head to see Nico's obsidian eyes focused on her, the fear in them. He looked like a child.
She gently took his hand in hers and said, "it's okay to be scared, Neeks. And it's normal to be feeling like this. I will be here for whatever you need, okay?"
Nico smiled at her and went back to leaning his head on her shoulder with his arms around her.
"Thank you. I don't know what I would do without you," Nico said which brought a smile to her face.
She rested her head on top of his and the two stayed like that for the rest of the night.
