The summer breeze brushed past my sundress as I walked down the lane. Eyes darted back and forth recognising my now famous face. Adults gasped, children waved: and I courteously smiled back. The people were clearly wondering what "that pretty actress" was doing here. Or perhaps they knew this was my birthplace -- after all, many seemed to be well-knowledged fans... Ah... tiring. Smiling all day and all night is tiring, it's a wonder my cheeks haven't given up! I chuckled to myself and kept walking. Hm hmm... now where was it? I halted before a restaurant on the bend, one hand on my hip, the other tapping my chin, wondering exactly where the old spot was...
"Can I help you, Miss?"
"Hm?" I pulled off my shades and nodded to the restaurant's security man. "Thank you but surely it wouldn't be nice to disturb your duty—"
"Oh no, I just got off my shift. How may I help?"
"Ah. I've been looking for an ice cream store..."
"An ice cream store, you say? We do have about four in this town, Miss—"
"My my... times have changed, eh?"
The man smiled. "This Miss has been here before?"
"This is my hometown," I smiled back warmly. "Though I haven't been able to visit for... a decade or two. I used to go to this one ice cream store when I was in college... summers weren't this harsh then!"
"Exactly. Times have changed, as you said, Miss, and the summers are getting warmer each year. Naturally the number of ice cream shops increase too."
"Hm... too true. Ahh! Ice cream!" I gazed up at the fluffy clouds with the exclamation, sighing dreamily.
The security guy gasped. "Wait. You're that person! The— The— The actress! Her!" He dramatically pointed to something out of my field of vision. I turned around and looked across the street at what appeared to be a freshly set up billboard. A massive Haagen Dazs advertisement with a tall, ageing woman relishing a cup of the finest coffee-flavoured ice cream.
"Ah, yes. That was done very recently, actually. A week ago." I chuckled to myself, thinking back to when eating the ice cream made me want to run back home to find the shop I always used to love. "It's what made me come here. Been a while since I had Nutty Choco Chip at The Fairy's."
"The Fairy's?" The man blinked. "Oh! THAT shop! Is that the one you're looking for, Miss?"
"Mhm!"
"Hm... I heard it was taken down though......" the man glanced at me unsurely.
"...taken...down?" My heart began sinking.
"The old grandmother who ran the store passed away."
"..."
