A perfectly round light shining in the dark
Her grace melts into the steady waves of the ocean
You could see she was stained, black scars and marks
And yet so charming: one large, beautiful imperfection.
Like a golden disco ball hanging up above —
That's what I used to call her decades ago
Back when I was younger, pretty as a dove,
Free as a lark who knew not what Fate had in store...
Now I stand here all alone, waiting all day
Watching the ruthless sun sink into the horizon
I smile as she appears, grinning wider, lighting the way
I sit down amid the waves, finger her reflection.
How can a being so imperfect, distant and lonely
Be so patient and warm, this beautiful and shimmery?
Her gentle lustre is cooling, it washes over soothingly
Her white arms wrap around me, comforting my misery.
And up there in the gloom she'll remain for all eternity
Embracing lost souls, consoling your nightly woes
Never will she judge: she listens, that gleaming beauty
Gentle lunar gaze always watching over as you doze.
