Carlton's pov~

I held John's hand as we walked through the garden of the castle, the garden was filled with many exotic looking plants and many bright colored flowers. "It's nothing to be so amazed about." He noticed me looking around, and I turned my head to look at him, "It just looks nice, that's all." I said, and he just looked away. "I wish we could always be this close." He dropped his voice to a whisper and held my hand tighter than just a few seconds ago, looking at me with passionate eyes. I felt my face getting hot and I looked away out of embarrassment and replied with the stupidest thing ever, "I'm surprised your guards aren't swarming you right now." He shrugged, "I guess they don't care enough about their crown prince." He said, letting go of my hand and running ahead of me. "Wait up!" I ran after him, but he was always naturally quicker than me. He came to a stop as soon as he came to the border of the forest, and looked behind him to make sure I was still following. He kept on walking into the forest, and all of the sudden he disappeared through all the trees and branches.

John's pov~

I screamed Carlton's name before some mysterious woman put a hand over my mouth and pinned me to a tree

"Ah, I thought I finally caught the king. But turns out I caught his son with looks and personality most ladies would go head over heels for." She said and took her hand off my mouth. "My name's Jessica, you? Oh, right. You're the Crown Prince." She said, as if we were in a normal situation. "What do you want from me?" I asked, and she pulled out a letter, "This was meant to go to your father, but since you're here, you can just pass it on, right?" I raised an eyebrow and took it. Why does she look familiar? "It's not going to be able to go to him." I said. She narrowed her eyes like she was confused, "He's dead? Oh...then why don't you just read it yourself?" She let me go, but just stood really close making sure I wasn't going anywhere. I opened the letter to find neat handwriting,

Dear Ace,

I am writing to you to propose a marriage between our kingdoms. It has come to my attention that my daughter, Jessica, hasn't thought about marriage yet, and I assume your son hasn't either? Why don't we arrange a marriage between them?

Marriage. What a disgusting topic. "I'm sorry, but I actually do have someone else on my mind." I lied. I avoided looking into her eyes as if I was afraid of her. She nodded as if she understood, but then she grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me in until I was about three inches to her face. "Now why don't you tell me who they are?" She said as if she was meaning to sound jealous. "Charlie Emily.." I said. "John?" I heard Carlton call from the brush. Jessica grabbed my wrist and dragged me further into the forest. I wondered if this could be considered kidnapping? "Well, if you're going to be crowned king soon, that's even better. Why don't you come with me?" She said, still holding tightly onto my wrist. "Get away from me you filthy-" She put a hand over my mouth before I could say anything else and dropped her voice to a whisper, "Shut up! You're going to attract unwanted attention." I was absolutely defenseless against her, as I had no sword, and she could hit me with hers at any moment. All of a sudden, Carlton appeared from the bushes with a sword in hand. Jessica pulled out a pocket knife and held it at my throat as she pushed me against another tree. "Don't hurt him!" He yelled, and she pressed the knife harder against my throat, everything went black.

Carlton's pov~

"I'll kill him, I swear!" She yelled at me, looking at me with crazy eyes. "Who are you and why are you here?" I asked, letting my sword drop back into it's place. She let go of John, letting his unconscious body drop to the ground. I winced as I watched him fall, like it was a bit of my heart just broke. "I'm Jessica. I'm here because my father wanted to arrange a marriage between him and I." She pointed to John and then at herself, continuing, "I guess that's a no." She looked back at him and smiled. I tried to go over but she put a hand up, "He'll be fine. It's just a little blood." I clenched my fist realizing I couldn't do anything about it. "You're not really here for an arranged marriage, are you?" I asked, trying to keep myself calm. She shook her head, "No. I was here to assassinate the king. But you did the job for me. Thanks." She patted me on the shoulder, letting her hand slide down my arm. After that, she turned and left.
