The weekend managed to fly by and you were pulling into the parking lot on Monday morning, already wishing it was Friday again.
You thought this would be regular Monday morning, plaster a smile on your face and drag yourself to class. But it started out a little different when a van pulled up next to you, blasting what sounded like Metallica.
You got out of your car just as Eddie was closing his door. You didn't expect any interaction from him, you have a couple of classes with him and he gives you no more attention than any other preppy girl around.
"Morning princess, listen, next time I offend you feel free to just tell me to fuck off like most girls instead of sicking your boyfriends on me yeah?" He stared down at you with clear annoyance in his voice.
"S-sorry, what?" You managed to stutter out, caught off guard by his animosity.
"You know, when you walked into me on Friday and I dunno I guess I offended your honor or something by breathing your air?"
"Offended my - sorry huh?" You sounded as confused as you looked, clearly not catching onto what he was talking about.
It was then you noticed that he had a couple of ugly bruises on his face. One just above his cheekbone and a fainter one along his jawline. You reached out to touch his cheek when you realized what you were doing and your hand just kind of hung in the air.
Eddie's eyes softened a little when he glanced at your hand and he sighed. "Look, I didn't mean to say whatever it was I said okay? I'm just sorry I guess that you can't pay attention to where you're going and it's apparently my fault" He turned on his heel and walked off towards the school.
You stood there dumbfounded by the odd interaction. You feared by his words that this had something to do with Jason and you could feel the little pinpricks of anger coursing through you at the thought that he would fight Eddie over something so ridiculous.
---
It didn't take long for you to hear about what happened on Friday after you left - in fact you heard Jason and his hoard of assholes bragging and joking about it when you got to class. Jason decided to get a few of the basketball players together to teach the 'freak' a lesson about thinking he could interact with 'their' girls.
Jason's eyes brightened when he saw you "Morning gorgeous, did you see Munson this morning? I believe he was going to apologize" he looked at you smugly and you briefly wondered where Chrissy was to get him off your back before the annoyance set in.
"Yes, he apologized, what did you do to him? Did you seriously attack him because I wasn't paying attention to where I was going?" You bristled and Jason could tell you weren't as pleased he defended your honour as he figured you would be.
You could see the warmth drain from Jason's face as he responded. "Attack? We merely just ensured he knew his social status and I saw the way he looked at you, he was practically fucking you with his eyes! Like he would ever stand a chance. We didn't think you would want to be looked at like that, maybe we were wrong"
You could tell he was getting worked up and you wanted to diffuse the situation as quickly as possible. Your anger melting away for something more akin to fear at the animosity in his words.
"Yeah, sorry n-no I wouldn't want anyone looking at me like that but I wouldn't want someone to get hurt on account of me either" you said, the words tasted wrong in your mouth. You just wanted to tell Jason to stick it up his ass and fuck off. You kept repeating 'just a few more months' in your head as you looked to Jason.
Jason calmed a little at your words but you could tell he was still annoyed that you were anything less than thrilled at his actions.
Luckily for you Mr. Stewart chose that moment walk into class and made everyone get in their seats. You couldn't pay much attention during this class or your next one. By the time lunch rolled around you were positively exhausted from the social interaction and completely pissed off at yourself from the way you acted towards Jason.
You were never one to be meek and mild, you always stood up for yourself in middle school, were always one to take on a kid twice your size if they were picking on someone else and it made you hate the way you felt now. You knew you obviously couldn't fight Jason but you would love to smack that smug little look off his face. When your mom passed you changed in a lot of ways, not all were for the better. You chose to hide a lot of the different unique aspects of yourself in favour of fitting in better in the hopes of keeping with the status quo and looking good on paper for college. The old you would have much less of a chance.

"Hey! Y/N!" Steve called out to you from across a few lunch tables. Saving you from having to eat with the cheerleaders today.
"Hey! Thank God you saw me" you said enthusiastically. "This is the highlight of my day" Robin and Steve shared a look that said they already heard about the Jason/Eddie fiasco.
After filling them in on what Jason had said your conversation turned to idle chit chat and you were thankful so be able to get lost in it for a little while. That is until you glanced over to the other side of the cafeteria to the Hellfire table. Eddie seemed to be a little excited, you could tell he was hyped up and you didn't expect much good to come from it. Almost as soon as you noticed him he glanced your way, you could almost see the ghost of a smirk on his lips as he made eye contact with you.
He was talking animatedly to the rest of the table and he suddenly jumped up, his voice raising to the point where you could hear him clearly a cross the cafeteria.
"But as long as you're into band" he jumped onto his table, walking dramatically down the length. "Or science or parties" he said in a mocking tone "or a game where you throw balls into laundry baskets!" He was really shouting now.
Jason jumped up "you want something freak?" Eddie made a devil face, mocking Jason and sticking out his tongue he locked eyes with you at the last second as his face turned into a smile. Your heartbeat pounded in your chest as you looked up at the gorgeous and completely insane man.
He turned around and made his way back up the table "it's forced conformity, that's what's killing the kids" he shouted again as he jumped off the table, scaring a passerby. You could see the rest of the table chuckling at his outburst. He finally sat back down and you let out a breath.
That man was going to be the death of you and he had absolutely no idea.
