It was a Sunday and the Glee Club had decided to hold an unofficial rehearsal, though I highly doubted that would get any rehearsing done, especially with Mr Shue not around. Blaine had invited us to his luxurious dwelling, which appeared to be a photo from a magazine. Every wall of the Anderson household was perfectly styled, chandeliers entering each room. A spiral staircase lead to Blaine's small suite, and a pair of glass doors led to the picturesque garden, fit with hedges, a crystal-clear swimming pool and a bar, which Sam pointed out as we toured around the garden. With Blaine's parents nowhere in sight, it was a sure thing that at least half of the Glee club would get drunk this afternoon. It wasn't long until I was sitting on the edge of the pool, my toes just dipping in, studying sheet music. I observed the scene around me. Sam, Mike and Puck were having what appeared to be a water pistol fight in the pool, while Finn and Quinn made out against a palm tree. I still hadn't gotten used to seeing Finn with her . Plus, they were moving incredibly quickly. Finn and Quinn had only become official a few days before hand, yet here they were with full-on PDA. It was uncomfortable to watch. Blaine and Kurt were tanning, flipping through magazines, and the rest of the girls were scattered around the pool.
After a fair while of reading the sheet music by myself, I was becoming bored with the situation, so I decided to speak up.
"Are we actually going to rehearse today?" I called out to no one in particular, "C'mon Rachel, did you really think that we would be singing and dancing today?" Puck chuckles mockingly. Typical. It wasn't long before Puck was at the bar, breaking the lock on the mini-fridge. Blaine didn't even flinch. Instead, he cheered when Puck held up a carton and a bottle of expensive alcohol before us in success. Everyone, even Tina and Artie, hurried towards the fridge and grabbed a serving of beer, vodka or liquor. Sam swung his legs out of the pool and scooted beside me. I was in the exact same place that I was sitting beforehand.
"Do you want me to grab you a drink?" He asked, with an excited grin on his face. I never took Sam for much of a drinker, but then again, what do I know about alcohol? I've never had a sip in my life.
"No, I-I don't think I would like it very much." I reply, staring at my reflection in the water. I can feel chlorine drips from Sam's damp hair falling onto my shoulder.
"You've never had a drink before? Never?"
"Well, no. It's not legal, anyway."
"Rachel, you are the most mature and responsible person I know. You always follow the rules, and don't get me wrong, I love that about you, but don't you think, just once in a while, you should really live and take a risk?"
"I guess I could try a little." I reply, hesitantly. Sam smiles.
"It looks like Puck is making up some shots. I'll get us some, okay?" Sam pulls me in across him and kisses me on the lips for a few seconds, before rushing off to get the shots. I was already anxious, worrying about what would happen to me once had a drink, hoping I wouldn't get drunk, but Sam was right. I did need to live. Sam returned quickly with two small shot glasses.
"Bottoms up." He said as we threw the alcohol down. Immediately, my nose cringed and the world began spinning.
I felt happy, and free and alive. Everyone around me was having a good time, and with a beer in my right hand and Sam's hand in my left, I was having the time of my life. We were all dancing on the deck, which conveniently had a disco ball and jukebox, on which Blaine was blindly pressing random buttons at 30 second intervals and he laughed like a small child. I hadn't had too much to drink, so I was probably the most aware one in the yard, which made me particularly observant of those around me, especially the guys, who were trying to get with all of the girls. All of them.
"Rach, let's go upstairs to Blaine's room." Sam smiled at me as we danced. He was drunk- not overly drunk- but still drunk. I knew it was his drunk self speaking to me.
"Sam, you know how I feel about that kind of thing, plus you are drunk and you probably won't even remember today tomorrow." I wrapped my arms around Sam's neck and pressed head to his, when I turned around and heard Kurt yell "TRUTH OR DARE!"
"Okay, the Anderson truth or dare is a little different. At the end of each question you also get to decide who the person kisses. It makes things a little more...interesting." The whole group laughed. We were all leaning against furniture as we formed a contorted circle on the grass.
"I'm first." Mike declared, raising his beer as if he were giving a toast, "Finn, truth or dare?"
"Truth, man." Finn replied hazily. He was easily the drunkest one at Blaine's, by a mile.
"Who's a better kisser dude? Rachel or Quinn. We all know you two dated last summer."
"Oh MAN," Finn laughed in an odd fashion. His body was lose and easy, "Quinn is a hot kisser, but I'd have to say Rachel. I don't even know why, man, she just is." Quinn looked partially offended at this, but at quite ease due to her current blood alcohol level. I, on the other hand, was quite surprised to learn of this.
"Kiss her, then. And mean it." Mike added, smirking. Everyone began chanting for us to kiss in a middle school-style chant before I had the chance to process what was happening. I glanced at Sam, who was chanting along and assumed that it would be okay. Just as I began to lean forward, Finn pulled me by the front of my swim suit and towards his lips, gliding his across mine hard and passionately, his hands rubbing my thighs. It all happened so quickly, and my mind was spinning, but I took advantage of the situation and returned Finn's aggression, grabbing his t-shirt in my hands and tugging it tightly. The moment was incredibly intense, even if was drunk. I even saw fireworks.
"Rachel, let's go." Finn whispered in my ear. I had had another drink since the end of truth or dare, but he hadn't, only sipping on soda. The sun was just setting, and the music was becoming louder and more intense. So was the night. After pretty much the whole of the glee club locked lips during truth or dare, the girls and guys had been having a dance battle. I had sat it out, feeling a little dizzy, and I didn't even notice that Finn wasn't participating until he found me by a patch of flowers.
"Finn....what are you talking about." I replied half-heartedly.
"Sam and Quinn are both dancing, so now is the perfect time for us to hook up. We're both drunk, so we won't remember it anyway."
"Finn..." I contemplated my options with a mind of alcohol, but I couldn't. I just added, "We need to find somewhere private to discuss what's going on between us." I was being genuine. I needed to tell Finn about Quinn and how we couldn't speak to each other anymore. We walked around the side of Blaine's house to a seat under a tree, where we sat.
"Finn, I'm not supposed to be talking to you. Quinn doesn't want me anywhere near you, or she'll tell Sam about us." I said, leaning back on the bench.
"Quinn said that? Well you do know that the only reason I'm dating her is to make you jealous, anyway." Finn slurred running a hand through my hair.
"What?" I replied, completely taken by surprise. Had Finn only been dating Quinn to make me jealous?
"Rachel c'mon, what we have is electric, you know that. We belong together."
"No...I belong with Sam."
"Are you sure?"
At that moment, I was startled by the sound of footsteps. I suddenly saw a figure coming towards us. This wasn't going to end well. I began to moving away from Finn, but not fast enough, because all of a sudden, there was Quinn. As soon as she saw us, she stormed towards us and placed her hand on her hips.
"FINN!" She yelled, filled with rage, "Get away from that thing!"
I stood up and approached Quinn, who was fuming. I tried to think of an explanation,
"Quinn, it-it's not-" but before I could finish I heard Quinn scream and felt hard hand swing across my face, leaving my cheek in throbbing pain.
