Through the vines draped over his windows, the whisper of wind carried the fragrance of blooming flowers and new life, caressing his exposed flesh. Yawning, Xochipilli rolled onto his back and blinked blearily at the soft leather tent above him. From the dim light, the sun barely kissed the horizon.

With a groan, Xochipilli stretched his arms above his head and arched his back, tugging his muscles taut. A sigh of pleasure slipped from his lips, and he slowly levered himself up to sit on his bedroll. His thin summer blanket pooled in his lap, covering his nude crotch. Rubbing his jaw, he let out another yawn, but his tusks caught on his upper lip this time. Grumbling, he twitched his lip away from the tusks.

Still shaking off sleep, he ran his fingers through his long, braided black hair. The strands spilled over his shoulder as he teased the braid loose, freeing the curled, thick hair.

"Xochipilli, are you awake?" The deep voice of his elder brother came from outside his tent, and Xochipilli repressed a groan.

He hadn't even had his morning tea.

"What is it, brother?" Xochipilli replied, reaching for his tanglewood comb.

"Father is calling for you," the older warrior rumbled, and by the sound of it, Ohtli was not happy to be in the role of errand boy.

"How important?" Xochipilli asked, dragging the comb through his hair. His eyes drifted around his tent to the drying herb bundles hanging from the ceiling, the half-woven blanket for winter, and his bags of clothing.

"Not sure, but I wouldn't take too long," Ohtli replied, voice fading as the warrior turned from Xochipilli's tent. "I heard something about the scouts encountering humans, too. We might be moving soon."

Xochipilli grunted and reached for his waist wrap and shoulder wrap. "Alright. I'll be there soon," he said.

Ohtli grunted his acknowledgment, and Xochipilli heard his steps as the larger orc walked away. Shaking his head, Xochipilli wrapped the shorter, dark cloth around his waist and secured it with the waiting leather belt. The longer beige-colored fabric with reds and greens intertwined along the edge he wove around his shoulders and chest before looping it off.

Spotting his small bags of herbs, he snagged those and quickly secured them to his belt. Then, snatching a cord of leather, he left his tent. As Xochipilli walked, he quickly braided his long hair and tied it off. He reached the Chief's fire just as he tossed his braid over his shoulder.

"Father," he said in greeting, bowing his head to show respect.

Chief Chimalli waved him over to sit by the fire and breakfast with him. Having no reason to say no, Xochipilli sat and accepted the round of flat tortilla bread from his father's slave. The smaller creature hurriedly heaped the bread with a mix of meat, fish, beans, and vegetables before scurrying back to the cook pot.
