Antonio delivers bad news to a member of 51, Herrmann recovers, Sylvie finds out the results of her exam, and is nearly forced into leaving

Things were still frosty between her and Chili, the PIC's nickname coming in handy. Sylvie had been written up for missing an IV stick on a child, something she thought was unfair but held her tongue about. Boden brought her into his office, and asked about it, confirming that it didn't need to go any higher than him. Those things happened in an ambo, and the patient was fine.

She was sitting on the back of the rig, running through some paperwork, when Antonio and Olinsky showed up. She waved at both of them, but Olinsky came over to her first.

"Hey Brett, do you know where we can find Jessica Chilton?" He asked, a toothpick hanging out of the corner of his mouth. She popped her head back up to see him there.

"Chili? Yeah. She's either in the common room or the bunks, I figured I'd get this done before we get called out again. Everything ok?" She looked as the two men made their way to the common room door.

"Should be. Thanks for letting us know." They walked in, and Sylvie's curiosity got the better of her so she went inside too, watching as the detectives went into Boden's office, then called Chili in. It didn't take all that long for Chili to leave the office, tears streaming down her face. Boden called Sylvie in next after saying goodbye to the detectives.

"Chief?" She asked, standing just inside the door.

"Close the door for a minute, Sylvie." She did, and sat down in one of the visitor's seats in front of his desk.

"Your PIC just got some bad family news, she's off shift for the next three. I'm going to pair you with Dawson, save getting a floater for a week. Dawson no longer has her PIC status due to being full time on the truck, but I was planning on letting you know today that you've passed your exam with flying colours, and are in the pool for a PIC role when it opens up. As such, you'll be acting PIC on 61 until Chili is back. Congratulations, Brett." Boden grinned as he stood to shake her hand, handing over the silver PIC bars. Sylvie stared at them in her hands, barely believing they were hers.

"Want me to put them on for you?" Boden asked, and Sylvie nodded. She stood as the father figure of the house attached the bars to her jacket, making sure they were neat and clear. He nodded once they were on, and Sylvie couldn't help grinning. "Let's go make an announcement."

The two walked out, Sylvie going straight to the coffee machine to hide her new silverware before it was said. Boden stood in the corner of the room, the room falling silent seeing him there.

"We've got some announcements. Chili has received some news so will be gone for the next three shifts, plus the rest of today. In her place, Gabriela Dawson will be paramedic on 61 with our new acting PIC, Sylvie Brett." The room erupted in a cheer, with everyone congratulating her. They were filled with the noise until the alarm went off, and it was straight into action.

Squad 3, Truck 81, Engine 51, Ambulance 61, Battalion 25, all units to structure fire at Racine and Cullerton.

Sylvie put her turnout pants on, grabbing her coat as she went to the ambulance. Gabby was just behind her, and they settled into their usual working relationship. They were first on scene to the fire that was arcing across an apartment building, so she set up a triage area, getting Gabby to tag people as they were delivered. More ambulances emerged and they followed her directions until an Ambulance Commander arrived to take over. Once she was relieved she started doing runs to Med and Lakeshore, bringing the most critically wounded there. It took three hours, but they were finally finished with their last run and could head back to 51.

Sylvie grabbed her radio for a moment, listening to see if there was any emergencies popping up. When it was clear for a minute, she turned it on. "61 to main, we're coming out of service for 15 minutes. Need to restock the rig and sort ourselves after that last call."
